When will the anti-gun people learn that it's NOT the guns. The data does NOT support that. If you really look into it, it's very clear that it's not the guns, but something else.

It's easy to blame guns. It's extremely difficult to understand the complexities of the mind, the society and the overall environment in which we live. Even though it's difficult to understand those thing, that's where the data points.

The easy answer is not always the right answer. That's especially true in something as complex as this.

All kinds of data. First of all is the total number of guns.

People like to argue that a high murder rate is due to the large number of people with guns. But this actually tells us that the murder rate is NOT due to the number of guns. If you look at the number of murders last year, and the number of guns, there was 0.0005 murders per gun. That's not exactly a strong correlation. The correlation is almost non-existent.

2) Lots of countries have as high or higher gun ownership rate as the US. They do not have a murder rate like the US. If guns were the cause, then you would expect those other countries to have as higher or higher number of murders as the US. But they don't.

3) Why has the murder rate gone down at the same time that gun ownership increase? If guns were the cause, you would expect the opposite to be true.

4) Speaking of other countries, let's compare to Canada which has a similar gun ownership rate as the US. They don't have nearly as high a murder rate as the US. As a matter of fact, if you ignore 100% of the gun murders in the US, the US would STILL have a higher murder rate than Canada. If the guns are the cause, how can that be possible? It can't.

5) If you look at demographics about who, when, where and why murders happen, you will see that it's highly concentrated among certain demographics and situations - gangs, drugs, drunks at bars, or drunk spouses. Outside of those groups, the murder rate is extremely low. Yet the gun ownership rate is spread more evenly, and may even be higher with groups outside of those demographics.

There is tons and tons of this kind of data. It does NOT show a strong correlation between gun ownership and murders. The correlation is minuscule. The data strongly shows that it is something else.

The Second Amendment has been around since 1776. What changed was the closing of all the mental institutions (instead of reforming them) that started in the 1970s and continued into the 1990s. Columbine happened in 1999. Then the rise of social media almost glorifying these insane acts added to the situation, provoking copycat actors. Bringing back mental institutions with proper reforms will solve the problem.
