+1 ywe have the most diverse population of a country I know of. We tolerate so many cultures inter mixed. My street alone has a large swath of the globe.
That said, we can be racist people, culturally unaccepting as well.
This term is always used in reference to African americans... not "black" people. there's black people from many cultures. There is racism towards AA people because the culture propagates behaviors the others don't accept or feel safe around. If you don't like, trust a culture environment, then it causes assumptions about those people and they can be treated differently.
I know someone that "isn't racist"... they live with AA people in their section of the city, but they ignore these people like they are the plauge and underneath, don't trust them and talk about moving out to a better place in the future... lol... and it's blamed on the republicans for not supporting mental health. Unreal! This person is very liberal in thinking, not emotionally sound themselves, but being successful in life. I used to live in that community.
Poeople are complex. When a culture is trustworthy, reliable, honest... they are accepted. Are you affraid to go into the Thai community near you... nope... you look forward to it for the good food. There are a few communities we are more cautious about...
When it comes to racism out our borders... we can be racist. Stopping migrants at the border... we are trying to stop all migrants, it's illegal to cross, so that's not racism. There was a time we were shuttling large numbers of Muslims to our country and they took over major areas, that seemed racially motivated... like a payoff, but they were apparently refugees. None of the ones I talked to said that... they just wanted a better life... same as Venezuelans. I hear even recent immigrants say... control the border. They are Brazilian!!! I've got Brazilians and Portuguese immigrants all over the place around me.
I think most Americans can be very caring, if they were trained to be so. Churches used to do this work, now it's the govt... and govt is heartless. That said, they don't want their country turned into the other countries, they want to keep their wealth. that's the problem!! Sharing... we should talk about that and how to do it.
We have to improve our people, our sense of community. We must bring back "Churches", communication. People used to meet on their front door patios and talk.

The former Georgia DA that refused to prosecute in the murder case of Ahmaud Arbery still hasn't faced trial, so while the laws are gone, the effect is still present in the 2020s.20 Reply
+1 yYes and no. The issue is kinda complicated. From my understanding, racism in the USA is more covert and systemic than overt. For example, using racial slurs is considered unacceptable and is frowned upon by society, but there are certain policies and practices that result in and support a continued unfair advantage to some people and discrimination of others based on race, in areas like criminal justice, employment, housing, health care. In Europe racism is more overt (for example, you might openly hear people swearing at people of color in the streets, which is shocking). Don't know if you agree with me, I'd be interested in your opinion

+1 yThe United States isn't a racist country, and the vast majority of the people living here aren't racist. Are there people here who are racist? Unfortunately yes, but it's a very small percentage of the overall population. Probably less than 5% of the people living here. However, here's the major issue: According to the United States Census Bureau, as of January 2023, there are now approximately 334,233,854 people living in the United States. If just 4% of our total population is racist, that's approximately 13,369,354 racist people, or around the population of the entire metropolitan New York City area. So it's easy to see how that 4% can seem a lot bigger than it really is.

For example... if you think purple people are being discriminated against... then who is discriminating against them? Are ingraining bias into the process? Are you generating discrimination with anti-discrimination propaganda, oops not propaganda, I meant "awareness"?
Not All Lives can matter, until Purple Lives Matter. Who f'ing said Purple Lives don't matter? So what's the message here, and it generating a productive approach or just promoting your own agenda?00 Reply
+1 yDepends on what kind of people you talk to or pass by. There are racist people all over the place. With some of these political figures we've been getting later, some other countries have referred to us as "An embarrassment", but that's not all politicians. Some actually stand up for civil rights, others, they slam illegal immigrants. Even though they are breaking the law, some people do make racist comments about them.
Being that America is known for a history of slavery, unlike some other countries, there are some Americans that still dwell on the past.
The racism though, I'd say it depends on each individual person and their personal views.00 Reply- 1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yMost people I meet seem to be pretty racist. Not open "Klan-like" racist, but more so-called soft racists whose actions show that they see different as somehow lesser or weird. I am not sure why it is so difficult for so many to judge people as individuals, but it seems fairly obvious that there is still a lot of work to do in this area.

+1 yWhen everything ''non-American'' is considered to be inferiour... that's a variation of racism :)
So I'd say: an estimated 50% yes, racist

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yJust go read the poll where it asks what's worse, a daughter posting a pic in a bikini or a son dressed up like he's in the KKK. The racist Trumploving MAGA Republicans overwhelmingly voted that the racist KKK son is fine.

00 Reply3.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It is a country, and as there is no explicit law denigrating any race, then no. Though it was when slaves were counted as 3/5 of a person.
Now whether the majority of the people are, that is another question.
