This country's a mess. Crime is up because people can't afford things. Where I live, someone would rob you for a loaf of bread.

I think we need to go back to the old ways, back when you were allowed to protect yourself, no questions asked. The town I live in is so broke, if someone were to get mugged and injured, it would take 45 minutes for the paramedics to get to the person.

Everybody wants a solution, but this is what happens when you have idiot politicians that think they know what they're doing. America is doomed. A government stands for 250 years. We're on year 247.

But if people did form militias, you can guarantee that Dems and libs would shit their pants and call more more police. They absolutely hate it when honest people defend their lives and property against robbers, looters, vandals and arsonists. LOL

Legislators and law enforcement at least attempt to be bound by laws. Its very far from perfect, but there is at least the ideal of fair, unbiased trials.

Far to often groups of "average" people rush to judgement - acting out of anger and not considering that they may have the wrong person, or have misinterpreted their actions.

@richardcory. True. But I wasn't talking about lynchings. I meant well regulated militias defending their neighborhoods and communities. And I was talking about communities that were left without police protection.
Criminals are more afraid of getting shot in the commission of crime than they are of being caught by the police, so they would stay away.
A well regulated militia wouldn't stand for gun happy people who shot people without just cause. That would be a crime.
And those neighborhoods would have police stations manned by citizens where criminals could be held in jail until legal authorities could take them away for proper trials and just sentencing.

I understand people wanting to form militias if there is no effective policing - I see it as one of the strong arguments for effective policing.

If the militia were really well regulated, it could be fine - but from what we've seen even the well trained professional police force doesn't do a good job. I don't see how a civilian militia would do better.

Deterrence doesn't seem to work well. People commit crimes for tiny amounts of money that risk them being put away for a long time. Many criminals are just not making any sort of risk / payoff calculation.

It's ok but all of it has impacted police ability to do their jobs.

We've had police chase down suspects and catch them... yeah!!!

The Post Office should tell people that, if they want their mail, they'll have to come get it!! But, at the same time, seeing as how postage is partly paying for them to deliver it, the rates should come down.

Police services doesn't stop crimes in a direct way but rather respond to crimes to be sloved.

If crime is very bad in a city then it's the DA and judges of that city that are the problem.
