I understand that the Student Loan dilemma is more nuanced than Suck it up buttercup, you took a loan, pay it back! There are many students who received useful degrees, such as in STEM but cannot get job placement due to outsourcing overseas and are under-bid; or those who are discriminated against by compliance with DIE hiring policies. Many qualified job candidates are stranded for those reasons.
But many more were coerced by public school and cultural propaganda to secure useless degrees in anything that is labeled as "-studies", nonsensical courses like Mongolian Underwater Dance, as well as most Sociology or Climate gradates for which no careers will ever be in the offing. These graduates will be marooned to serfdom.
There are no easy answers for those graduates with useful degrees and I have none. But the many more with useless degrees, who have been tricked by our culture and encouraged by universities' curricula to land useless degrees, are another matter. Even as a MAGA guy, I admit that it is both unfair to compel these students to impoverish themselves for decades by repaying 10's of thousands of dollars they were deceived into accruing. But it is equally unfair to compel a cashier at Hobby Lobby or a Third Shift Security Guard at the local hospital to pay for someone else's uninformed decisions out of their tax money.
I propose, on either a case by a case or by a common classification basis, that the US government bill institutions who facilitated students to secure these unpayable loans and overcharged for them, for useless degrees, by pursuing donor endowments and diverting pre-existing government subsidies, to reduce or cancel those debts. Further, issuing banks which failed to evaluate the viability of loans for what students were actually getting, should share responsibility for the cost and not the taxpayer.
