If you have to be extraordinary for a bigot to apologize, they are still bigots rights?

My friend shared me this brief story. Her cousin was being discriminated by a guy's mother for being Asian. The lady apologized after finding out she was a lot smarter than her daughter and she saved her from failing math. Unlike Hollywood ending that everything is forgiven easily and they're all friends, she didn't find that apology enough, she was still hurt, doesn't trust the lady and wants proof through actions that she has changed.

I've seen cases like that on episodes too. One guy's mother ended up aplogizing to her son's black friend only after realizing his parents are rich and he's the smartest kid at school with a high IQ. So what if he wasn't rich and didn't get straight A's and instead was a kind, normal average citizen? The lady would've hated him till the very end.

Another episode I just saw yesterday was about a guy's girlfriend being treated horrible by the man's parents (more by the father though who was very insulting) just because she was in a wheelchair. The father mocked disabled people. It was only after they found their son is still in college thanks to her or else he would've been kicked out due to bad grades. She helped him succeed. All of the sudden, the dad is so sorry and all is forgiven. BS.

Are people like that still bigots?

What if their son failed college and the girl in the wheelchair was just an average student without any extraordinary skills, just a good person that wants to progress in life and loves her boyfriend?
The parents, esp the man's father would've hated her and be bigot till the end.

I fail to understand why anyone has to be extraordinary to get accepted or receive an apology when it's about getting respected from the start.

If you're a bigot to begin with, no amount of apologizing will change that fact. The only thing you'd be apologizing for is that it fell out of your face and someone heard it, not because you believe it was wrong or it's wrong to think that way. LOL

Exactly. Unless their apology is followed by community service hours working for the people they just discriminated and other actions, I wouldn't believe their apology either. For them to change, they would have to change their whole concept/idea and that's likely impossible the older they are.

Maybe that would be a start, but lawbreakers are often sentenced to community service as penance, and who knows it really makes a difference in their hearts? It looks good on paper, but it's a crap shoot.
