Our economy and welfare are suffering from older people who worked labor jobs and can’t support themselves.
I’m not for them starving or homeless, but I hate when they vote idiots like Trump in because they’re afraid of competing for the bottom rung of society with immigrants (who actually work), I get testy.

We have practically free learning…going to waste. Every poor person can put the time in to learn a new trade. But they are LAZY.

What is the point of hating someone. That be my issue... it's wasted energy.

You can generalize this to people don't want to change... emotionally, culturally, or learn new skills. I know older people that are doing so (depends how you define old)... and I've some whom are stuck, out on the street or just stuck. It's hard after 20 and even harder after 50.

I've been learning, but damn if I had to get a job and compete, it be hard.

I just wonder if a lot of people would want to learn if they had the right support in place.

I see lots of older people working in grocery stores and check out lines... because they have to... by bad choices, mistakes, misfortune (loss of spouses or medical issues in family) or the endless burden of govt confiscating what they earn. don't even talk about the mid life people whom are now caring for kids and sick parents and are run out dry and feel hopeless. a lot of america, is not doing well.

And that... inspires some to vote for Trump... or anyone else, eventhough both sides been ripping them off for decades.

So it is okay for somebody who has worked all thier life and all of a sudden gets displaced in the workforce through no fault of their own and you expect them to go back to school at 50 years old to learn how to write code? At the same time put illegal aliens up in 5 star hotels? Really?

I started a second career at 40. Nobody wanted to hire a 40 year old person for an entry level position. The dept of labor keeps statistics and only 1 in 10 people over the age of 40 ever successfully trains for a new career and actually gets a job in that field.

I would say it is more frustrating, particularly when it relates to mental health/learning disability, people just seem not to want to learn. Im more frustrated if it is people under 40, because they like to patent themselves as the equality generation.

Not sure hear you mean here. Disability is a thing that’s around 1-2%. So average workers in America are around average 100 IQs and could learn a new trade in days and be employed in months.

No, I'm not saying not, but there is a fairly wide area between an intellectual and a mentally disabled person. People that fall in that range often have very poor reading skills, which to a large extent is pretty much fatal to advanced academic learning. If you cannot read, you cannot take in or comprehend required knowledge for a great many things that would be useful going forward.
