We know that Joe has attended many business dinners with Hunter's business partners.

But Joe never once asked his son what he does for a living?

And all they ever talked about at these business dinners was about the weather?

They're trying to bury it now. The original deal for Hunter involved pleaing guilty to a couple minor crimes in exchange for having literally hundreds of other crimes thrown out forever. The only reason it fell through was because they got greedy and tried to include immunity from future crimes as well.
