Every person i ever met that used to own a American car never bought another one again. All my family members drive Japanese cars. Don't get me wrong but Americans used to make some amazing cars back in the 60s and 70s but know all they make is unreliable high tech junk. They don't even make cars anymore with the exception of a few muscle cars that are expensive and unpractical. Honestly, I would not not even care if they went out of business because they need to go back to the drawing board and build some good reliable cars again otherwise they should just shutdown.
I don't know if it's true anymore, but the UAW used to have a "job bank".
So if you were trained to work the xyz machine, and the company replaced them with xyz2 machines, the union said you didn't have to comply with it. You could just come to work and sit in the break room for 8 hours. And if you were high up in seniority, you didn't even have to come to work. You could stay home and watch Netflix and get your normal pay.
But the car company offered to send you to school, and pay your full wage while you were learning how to use the xyz2 machine. But the union said that was cruel. So fuck them.

Compared with German cars, American cars are more affordable, but of course cutting corners shows in the interior design and reliability. Cadillac is probably the best domestic brand (really like the CTS and CTS Coupé), but then again you get to pay Cadillac prices. Japanese cars are the best compromise with fairly good designs and top-notch quality.

I'm not worried about it.
There have been strikes before and they get it worked out.
Most of the time especially if it is a longer strike the workers never recoup the money they lost vs what they gain.
Sometimes it is just a pissing contest between the unions and the company and it doesn't matter who gets caught up in it.
There have been strikes where the companies have said screw it and just closed the doors and went out of business.because economically speaking if the product "car" gets more scarce as a result of the workers of one brand being on a strike, that makes the price of all cars shoot up. so even if you hate the brand, it's in your best interest that these workers do not strike for too long.
I was told that my Grandpa got a Chevy back when he went to US in 1960s and then my father's cousin got a BMW which was really crap at the time 😂.
Now they are not so good and reason being they are always making big engines and never tried to market smaller cars in countries of mass markets like Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia. And most CEOs of these big companies have never thought of developing countries as markets to manufacture their productsI've rented dozens and dozens of cars over the years. Never been impressed by an American one. UAW can shut them all down, maybe they'll rebuild decent.
They're only going to be shittier if the UAW gets their demands
The wealthy executives might get minor pay cuts.
