Any car insurance agents on here? Weird story I need clarity on. I live with my brother (22), he does not have a license or car insurance. One night he was in a friend’s car (owner of the car was driving) and the driver crashed. I was not present or involved in the crash. My brother lost all his front teeth and part of his jaw. The drivers insurance is covering some of the medical expenses for his teeth, not all of it, so our father (who does not live with us) provided his car insurance to cover the remaining costs. My brother has a lawyer sorting all of this out due to the drivers insurance not covering it all. The confusing part is, now my father is asking for my car insurance (my brother is not on my policy). He claims if I provide my insurance also, because I live with my brother my underinsured coverage can get my brother additional “pain and suffering” money basically. The lawyer and my father are claiming my brother could get up to $100,000 and it would not effect my rate or coverage at all. Which makes absolutely no sense. This is causing a lot of problems between my father and I. We are already are a bit estranged from one another but not fully yet. I’m afraid after saying no to this we will never speak again. My reason for saying no is 1. my brother doesn’t deserve a handout he never works for anything he wants while I am working my butt off, 2. free money doesn’t just appear 3. they offered me $5,000 out of it just to provide my insurance and my father’s tried to use blackmail to get this out of me, 4. I don’t want to be charged with insurance fraud later or deal with paying higher rates even though they say I won’t.. insurance is unpredictable and they could be lying. What are your thoughts?

I read this over twice and it makes no sense to me. Your brother should get a lawyer and sue the person who was at fault of the accident to recoup his losses. I find it hard to believe that he would be covered under your policy.
Neither you nor your insurance have any part in this scenario. Any claim you file would be fraudulent. Don't do it.
I know its so odd. The lawyer and my father are saying I do because I live with my brother.. but I was not even at the accident and it wasn’t my car
Smells like insurance fraud, you dad using his sounds fraudulent
If you're already estranged then report him to the company so they blacklist him that's the only way to stop a fraud
