Probably :) I'm really glad my mom named me Lukas I idenitified with the name from the start people can easily remember it and it works in German and English and many other languages too and she thought of that because my dad is from Canada and stuff. But my last name is a hassle nobody can speak it when they see it written or write it when I say it. And it's hungarian even though I'm swiss because my grandpa on my dads side is from hungary so it doesn't fit with where I grew up and the culture and community that I'm used to. And I get treated a bit like a foreigner when I meet new people. I have to explain my family history to people constantly. But I've lived with it my whole life and I've gotten used to it and it just is what it is. My mom changed her name back to her maiden name as soon as she could when my parents got divorced.
My life probably would be easier with her name but it wouldn't make a huge difference. So far I haven't noticed a lot of negative treatment because of my foreign name. One person changed their attitude towards me a bit once they found out that my Grandfather on my mothers side served in the Swiss military for 5 years during world war 2. But most people that matter have been very professional and kind to me no matter what my name was.
I'm doing well so I don't have anything to complain about :)
I feel like the first name is more important because that's part of my identity. The last name is just something that's passed down randomly by law. If I was born later then my mom could've given me her family name. And if I was born even later I could've potentially had my grandmothers family name. So it's not something I place much value on. It only matters if you have a famous rich family name, if you wanna be a celebrity (but then you can just use a fake name) or for people that are xenophobic. Otherwise it's pretty meaningless what your last name is.
If I didn't like both my names then it would really suck though.
Sometimes people with short concise names still have problems.
Easier? Yeah I think so. I had a boring name, and my best friend had a unique one, and it bugged me sometimes but she got bugged a lot more often lol. Prolly not a huge amount easier, but a little bit sure.

Common names look better on resumes. I'll pass over a resume with an uncommon name if I find an equal one with a common name. Common names usually come from traditional families and that's what I prefer in an employee.
I'll hire immigrants in a heartbeat with unique names but someone with a weird name goes to the bottom of the pile. I get enough good resumes from people with normal names.

"If your name is common, you are more likely to be hired
In a Marquette University study, the researchers found evidence to suggest that names that were viewed as the least unique were more likable. People with common names were more likely to be hired, and those with rare names were least likely to be hired. That means that the Jameses, Marys, Johns, and Patricias of the world are in luck.
Uncommon names are associated with juvenile delinquency
A 2009 study at Shippensburg University suggested that there's a strong relationship between the popularity of one's first name and juvenile criminal behavior. Researchers found that, regardless of race, young people with unpopular names were more likely to engage in criminal activity."
I do believe its common and i do think its wrong too and should change. and i can't believe that one dude below is actually defending the practice. its pretty fucked up in my opinion.
i now go by the artist formerly known as Prince because he took the symbol already
Sure. Easier to fill out government forms.
