Anyone who has any understanding of the concept of “self-love” can be seen as selfish in the eyes of people who validate themselves on the opinions of others. A lot of it is just understanding that you think of yourself first as part of your evolutionary survival techniques, and then you have empathy to think of others. Thinking of yourself doesn’t make you inherently selfish, it just means your brain is working

I wouldn't use the word "selfish" (but yes there are a lot of selfish people). I would use the term "self involved". It's not that everybody is selfish. But everyone considers themselves the star of thier life story. This is why I yell people, "don't worry what people think about you. Because if you only realized how little they do".
