If my own kid right right now got a minimum wage job i would have to beat some sense into them and tell them to play some video games because that will be cheaper then them working negative dollars.
Who the fuck hires a minimum wage person to set then get performance targets?
I work at a grocery store store and i get a yearly $1.00 raise since the beginning to account inflation. Not perfect but it's consistent. its now $19.20 raise been there 13 years to adjust inflation. When i started it was $9 and i couldn't afford my fucking shoes. i did walk holes in the rubber sole until i hit pavement. Let alone all my other required uniform that got destroyed. It cost more to maintain working minimum wage. Don't get me started on transportation.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yFair. As an employee your employer will go over what they require. How to increase your review score, which will increase your wages. Every employer I’ve worked for has always told me what they expect, how I can earn more, etc. So it wasn’t like I didn’t know what they expected. If your employer didn’t clarify this w you or whoever this is about, than yes I’d say that’s not fair because there was no knowledge of what one could do to increase their earnings. All of that is usually in the contract. I just had my review last night. I’m doing exceptionally well in all categories, there’s one category I have room for improvement. In order for me to improve in that category my supervisor informed me I could join some of the hospital groups as far as teaching, committees to come up w things on how to make things better in our department, etc.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yThat's less than a 3% raise so what good is it going to do? And if you miss performance goals in a minimum wage job, that's pretty pathetic.

this happen a former supervisor of mine and he eventually quit. I felt bad for him because even though his numbers (speed, errors etc.) were not great (below expectations) to deny him a 50 cent increase at his yearly review just seemed mean.
+1 yThat's so they can afford to give management big bonuses.

+1 yFair and unfair are empty buzzwords.
Fair is when Zebras got stripes.
If you want to judge wether that salary increase or lack of was justified in the broader perspective there are some key information missing.
Is it just this one employee who was denied that bonus?
Was it described in his contract under what conditions he will recieve a bonus?
How is the company standing overall financially?
What kind of bonus or increase in salary have other recieved?
and so on...10 Reply - 6.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yI assume you're talking about company performance targets, in which case the company is not making the money it thought it could make. So yes, it's fair... where do you think the company is going to get that extra money from?
If you're talking about the employee missing personal performance targets, that is also fair. Why reward the employee when they didn't do what was expected of them? How would other employees (who achieved their targets) feel if both got the same raise?

+1 yIf you do good your company does good & if your company does good you should do good. As for me I say everyone deserves a raise if you actually work but if you are one of those entitled employees that think just because they show up for work, do nothing & play on their cellphones all day they should get paid think again.
Inflation is up I think the company should throw you something but if you are underperforming & not helping the company they should take away.
00 Reply 495 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It's pretty simple... If you don't like what you earn for the work that you do, then walk away and go do something you want to do. Find a better job, improve your education and training for a more high skilled job, or take the skills you do have and show some entrepreneurship to fill a gap int he market and provide a product or service people want for a price you are willing to work for.

m +1 ywhy reward... a missing performance?
that's not how business works... you reward and promote success, not failure... lol32 Reply- +1 y
you dont reward failure but to withold such a small amount (50 cents) just seems mean
- +1 y
a 50 cents raise can amount to a whole lot... when the business is running off budget, and on top of it... you have employees not doing a better job
it's not always about being mean... sometimes it is about need
12.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. To be fair, if ANY job is giving you such a poor wage, you need to examine your life.
The whole point of "minimum wage" is that the employer can't totally screw you over on base pay. But they can screw you on bonuses, increases and everything else. Hence why unions are demanded a "living wage" instead of "a minimum wage".
00 Reply2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I assume its a for you 20 others type worker without a bargaining chip. I think its very exploitative but not always something you can do. However, if that is not the case they should not be accepting minimum wage to begin with.

It matters of money mean or nice are irrelevant. The only thing that matters is maxizing value. Clearly he didn't meet the goals of the job. And clearly he moved onto another job that fit him better.
Never bring emotions into matters of money always keep it cold calculated and logical. - +1 y
I'd say if a "supervisor" is in a position where fifty cents is the expected raise then he/she's already in a bad place in life
+1 yWhat is fair? In the context of the parameters the company set up ( if we meet our performance goals people get a $.50 raise) the not meeting the goals should mean that you don’t get the raise.

+1 yMore info needed, what's the job? Age? Skill level? How big is the company?
02 Reply- +1 y
retail job; upper end in terms of skills required. I never asked but I think he was early 20s. the company had about 60 exployees at our store and multiple different stores.

For a big company and that situation I'd say raise the wage. Also for him I'd say take it as a red flag to venture to something more profitable
