Scientists can't fight nature. Believe it or not there are million things that science CANNOT change.
Also, NOT ALL WOMEN WANT KIDS. Plus, you're not thinking about the effects of a pregnancy, the body needs to rest.
Raising a child is not easy and it's an huge responsibility, so imagine raising 30 or 40 children/kids at the same time?
Pretty much everything in this world has a limit and I'm glad that it's like that. There are women who want to become mothers, but I'm pretty sure that no woman would be ok with giving birth and raising for instance 50 children/kids at the same time.
At last but not least, if women were fertile until death, then our planet would have even more problems because there would be more people.
More people =/= more problems. Besides women's fertility is not all about having more babies but also better sex due to a youthful reproductive system
It sounds you were only thinking about women having more babies.
Why do you care about other people's sex lives? Why does that matter to you?
I care about everyone as much as I care about myself
That's good, but it's bad when it comes to other people's sex lives and babies.
I wouldn't want that and also there's lots of different things you can do to have kids if you want one. Egg donations, adoptions, etc. Our bodies were made to go through menopause so that way we don't get pregnant at an old age. Not just that, but there'd be complications if our bodies went on longer and had more periods than what is normal (which would be a big ouch). Menopause usually happens around 40s, 50s, or even 60s for some people, so by then they wouldn't think of having kids anymore.
I'd rate this problem as a design flaw in todays terms. It is all very well to say do something but what is the problem.
The Fatyum mummy portraits are thought to have been painted whilst the person was alive - because life was that short back then. For men 22.5 - 25 years and 35-37 years for women in ancient Egypt. Quite possibly women were fertile for (a short) life in ancient times.
Given individuals died so early there would be no evolutionary advantage to women being fertile till their 80's
The evolutionary advantage is clear as now we are fertile for longer. Since the existing children may die, we need to preserve fertility until death.
Now we are living longer there would be an evolutionary advantage sure. But if the average woman lived till 37 having capacity to be fertile till 40 was already over engineered. It was probably 6 babies per woman and each birth with the potential of death.
There is capacity to harvest ova already (and if it doesn't already exist it would be within the realms of speculation to check the genetic integrity of the ova). Would an interventionist model be suitable?
Modifying the ovaries somehow would seem extreme.
Good question. They would have to fix aging first

Because it is a dumb idea that very few would want. Having babies is stressful on the body and gets worse when you are older. And what kind of a person would want babies have mothers that die when the baby is 1?
The level of stress a pregnancy puts on the body is amazing. And the fact women can survive it is equally as amazing. I would not want to force a woman to go through a period for another 30+ years. I am a scientist not a monster. Women already suffer enough going through the periods they get to begin with. The level of malice one would need to consider forcing women to endure another 30+ years is unbelievable.
It's not about forcing anyone but allowing those who want to remain fertile to choose that.
It wouldn't be a choice. If science messed with things to keep fertility going then women would HAVE to go through an additional 360 periods (roughly). Also I have spent most of my adult life as a scientist and one thing scientists learn really quick is when you mess with nature and attempt to control things you shouldn't control nature messes back and it messes back hard.
when i read about human ova, the pattern was many ova eggs, are stored already at birth but most do not "mature". at age mature, the remaining ova also mature. much less than when born. i guess the environment influenced which ones survive and mature.
in modern society where science is relevant, people want 2 or 3 kids, so no need to extend past age 30.
Because pregnancy is a significant effort for the body, culminating in an even greater effort in the form of childbirth. After that comes an even greater effort – caring for the child for many years.
how would that help? you want your granny at nearly 90 to have "the ability" to have kids?
I'm looking forward to menopause and the then lack of dumb periods, so settle down there XD
Literally no benefits to this.
People should be free to choose when to have menopause
why is that?
if you reach menopause and still want kids there's IVF/surrogacy/adoption/OPTIONS. so they don't need to.
The natural process of reproduction is always better than these artificial ones.
better? in what sense? because those with actual infertility may have a different opinion.
also menopause is a natural process, so you need to put a bit more thoughts into your arguments.. being immature and a "babygirl" only gets you so far :)
A.) I reject the idea of having periods until I'm old and decrepit.
B.) The solution to the birthrate is tied to the cost of having and raising kids.
Japanese scientists don't want to work on that, they don't like Christmas cakes. :)
YES! Why don't men decide to give us periods until we drop dead! Then we can blame our suffering on them <3
okay but seriously that sounds like hell
Uhm... we don't need a higher human reproductive rate. We have finite resources. What sense would that make?
Who wants to have children when you'll die before they leave school, at best, Kindergarten, at worst?
All the globalists and most world leaders want to depopulate the planet. They believe we are over populated.
So we could have 32 billion people on Earth instead of 8 billion?
I guess because the risks are far greater than the benefits.
you're basically asking for (almost) immortality.
How would that increase the reproductive rate if the current rate is already going down and no one seems to care
It's not the same as immortality. For that we need to preserve more than just reproductive function.
Don't you want to stop ageing and die a peaceful death? Don't you want to choose the day of your death?
No I mean many people die before they have accomplished something. Call it a suicide but I think it's better than dying before you wanted to.
Why would you want a baby you won’t be alive to raise?
They work on what they get funding to research and develop. No one is going to fund that.
No, it wouldn’t. We don’t need more people. We need them in the right places doing the right things.
I agree but we must become a multiplanetry species and this would help us.
You don't deserve it, honestly most of you don't even deserve the fertile years you get already as evidenced by the high rates of out-of-wedlock births.
Damn, we should make babies the old fashioned way.
I imagine that Mother Nature has a reason for doing what she does.
Besides, you couldn’t afford to raise a child on Social Security.
What are you crazy? Life is hard enough without them fertile for life
Bc birth as a whole is dangerous. So many women die giving birth. Girl wtf are u asking
It would be pointless, there’s a reason theirs a deadline. To make loser ugly men on the same playing field as undesirable women
I don’t think that’s beneficial, the story in the bible about Sarah giving birth at 90 is bullshit
if not pure symbolism, it definitely exagerated numbers, as usual. i guess the story teller felt people were losing interest so added surprising stuff.
Why would they want to have kids when they’re that old? 🤣
You have the option of freezing your eggs.
Scientists prefer depopulation.
Why would they do that?
You have no idea what you’re talking about
Because overpopulation is bad enough already
Because we got enough humans
Why?
