Has anyone ever tried a romance scam on you?

I was just reading about how some guy got conned out of $500K by some (maybe) girl on the internet. How TF do people fall for that from someone they never met in person? If someone you know only via the internet asks for a large sum, or any sum, how could you not be suspicious?

In their defense, I suppose, the scammers are very patient, sometimes communicating for a year or more before asking for money. But there are places in Asia where people are held in slavery and forced to pull these cons over the internet. Most are directed at lonely older men, but they can be pulled on anyone.

That never happens to me because I don’t stay online chitchatting with strangers. I have heart lots who were scammed…. i don’t know anyone personally…mostly from the news reports.
one gag friend met an alcoholic…dated, allowed her to moved in…within two yrs…things went terribly bad…she empty him out while he was took away over night…

just be careful out there.

Sounds more like she was just a dirtbag rather than a deliberate scammer, at least at first. Although there are scammers who will milk people along for a year or more.

My cousin was in a relationship like that. When things went bad she accused him of fondling her kid and he spent a night or two in jail. Fortunately all charges were dropped when it came to light what a pathological liar she was.

I get the text messages constantly. I fuck with them relentlessly.

Yeah but you need to be realistic about the motives of the other person. If you're 62 like this one guy was and some hot 20-or-30-something Asian girl you've never met in person is suddenly interested in marrying you, it's time to step back and re-assess.
