Now that Joe Biden has declined to do a Superbowl interview, should CBS have President Trump substitute for him?

The Superbowl interview has become a tradition since 2009. President Biden declined last year which was thought to be his dislike of Fox News whose turn it was to host the event. This year Norah O'Donnell would have been the host. Biden cannot use the excuse that the press would be hostile because CBS is clearly one of Biden's proponents.

Should President Trump do the interview instead? It is sure to get high ratings.

No. I think Biden declining to do an interview was the right thing to do because and interview, especially during an election year, would be a political moment. He recognizes that but, even though it might have been in his best interests to do an interview, he doesn't so as to not politicize the Super Bowl which should not be politicized.

For this reason, Trump - if he was actually patriotic - wouldn't do an interview at the Super Bowl either.
