I don’t think either has more followers. I’ve been at ground zero for many, many, protests. I’ve seen both extreme left and right. (Antifa is a single specific organization, and extreme right is so ambiguous as to be open to nearly anybody not left if one were so inclined to label people capriciously.)
My observations in the middle of the road between them - particularly when they are both there protesting each other: they are both populated by assholes and savages lacking civility and respect. Why? Because they are extremists who by definition lack any understanding of compromise.


I think both extremist ends of the spectrum represent less than 3% at either left or right. The vast majority of people tend to hold more reasonable and flexible beliefs.

Extremism requires a time commitment. The thing that universally kills extremism is when its leaders are forced to get a real job. But if such leaders can be paid to be extremists, then they can organize the time commitments of others such that it can feel more like a club for entertainment to them.
So, the question is who is willing to pay the salaries for such leaders? And no matter what avenue you take you find the answer is the far right. If you simply look at what exists, there are hundreds of far right think tanks, no far left think tanks. If you look at funding, pretty much 99% of the billionaires of the world are far right. And if you look at activity. The far eight nearly started a civil war on January 6th. The thing that stopped them is they were told left wing extremists would be there to fight them thus prompting Trump to invoke martial law, but no left wing extremists showed up to fight them (because there weren't any).

When you don't want to drive with 200km/h towards a concrete wall (in metaphoric terms) you're already a "right wing extremist". I mean, the threshold to be labeled "right wing extremist" is incredibly low.

In reality, left wing extremists are 4-6% of the population. They consider the rest of the nation right-wing extremists. So do the math, you commies are extremely outnumbered by better armed and better trained men.

And that's saying a lot more than you think considering American military men who lean right wing had a loss exchange ratio of 1 American to 188 Iraqis even though Iraq was once the 4th largest military in the world.
