1. There are other elections than the general election. I don't really see any value in a national holiday for voting day being that you vote for various offices at federal, state, county levels at different times on different years, there are special elections for recalls etc. Elections happen as needed. Limiting the power of the people to vote to one day reducing the people's power.
2. Like I said, single day voting limits power of the people. I'm all for all votes being tallied by a defined day. If an election day is set for a particular office, then the vote should be counted by the end of the day. It should not be dragged on until someone can rig the vote in their favor. That doesn't mean that there shouldn't be an opportunity for early voting or absentee voting. Blanket mailing ballots to everyone on the voter roll is wrong, but if registered voters request an absentee ballot and they have valid identification and their address is confirmed to match that identification, I'm cool with people receiving a ballot in the mail, signing and dating it, and then mailing it back or dropping it off at the supervisor of elections office. So long as there is chain of custody, I don't have an issue with ballots being mailed. They just need to be returned on time so they can be counted by the end of election day.
3. I prefer paper ballots. I think they should come with higher levels of security embedded within them though so that chain of custody can be tracked properly. Elections are important and anti-counterfeit technology and blockchain technology could improve paper ballots.
4. Yes, obviously your identification should match your voter records.
5. I don't really have an issue with ballots being printed in only English given that you have to pass an English test to become a naturalized citizen. That said, I don't really have a problem with ballots being in other languages either, given that in Americas you have freedom of speech. People can speak, read, and think whatever language they please. That said, to be a citizen, you still do have to have some basic competency in the English language and to vote you have to be a citizen. It's kind of a non issue... So long as you are a citizen you should be able to vote, but if you are citizen you should also be able to vote in English.
I have voted in person all of my life. Being that I live in a small precinct. The election officials know most everyone. After verification of your signature. They give you a ballot and you vote.
I am in favor of Voter ID. You need to show ID at doctors offices, banks, hospitals, airports and federal buildings. So why not when you are supposed to be electing a president that can destroy or make the United States greater?
i believe that most work places need to allow you time off to vote. As in years past. You needed to be out of town, military or some other good reason not to be able to vote in person to vote by absentee ballot.
With the whole world connected by internet. Hackers able to get into anything. The voting machines should not be connected to the internet to be compromised.
No. I just agree with the part about one day voting. When you register to vote, you will have to prove you're a US citizen. You will give your social security number. Then take biometric scans including your face and all of your fingers. Register your full name, username and password. Have three secret questions and answers on file.
Then vote from home on the couch on voting day. If you don't have a smartphone, and don't know anyone who does, then you will have to go to a voting station and use theirs. No humans will be involved in the process of counting the votes. And have Apple be in charge of the security of this new system, not the idiots in government.
Paper ballots of any kind, are about as retarded to me as letting the East Coast pick the primary winners. Why are we still clinging to the horse and buggy days?

1. Yes.
2. Goodness, yes; the whole "New Hampshire sets the damned tone" thing is ridiculous. Just ask Howard Dean!
3. I doubt this would make a serious difference.
4. Where are all these people voting that DOESN'T require an ID? I lived in Illinois, political corruption capital of the country, and was always asked for an ID.
5. No. Not everyone who can legally vote can speak English, and I don't think it's the government's job to change that.
IL does not ask for ID.. at least not in the counties that are in the Chicago land area
@David94358 They always did with me.
they're all good, yes... and most of these are all mandatory in Mexico
in Mexico you are required to bring your unique ID with photo to almost every official paperwork from the government, especially voting
these are good measures but that is exactly why they won't happen... lol
Growing up, that's how I started voting, except for #3 ... we used a mechanical machine.
I don't know when it why early voting happened, and I really wish they'd get rid of it.
I don’t see a problem with that. However, single day voting may be an issue due to many people work long hours, have trouble with transportation, or may be able to make it on a particular day
Aside from the language - since the USA has no official language - it seems reasonable. Especially the paper ballots only.
English has been our official language since 2008.
Individual states have adopted it as the official language of the state. There's no official language for the entire nation.

That's the government website...
Making the day a national holiday doesn't mean everyone who wants to vote can physically attend a voting station. They make you stand in line without water ffs.
You'd think this is the baseline how far we have fallen in a society.
I am sad to see that he lost, hopefully Trump has him for a VP.
Me and my dad have been proposing idea number 1 for years
That would make cheating tougher for those democrats.
Yes all completely logical
Fuck yeah, sounds like a sensible proposal.
Yes to all of the above.
Voting is always done on a Saturday in my country.
Yes, I 100% support all these!
Only #4. The others are unnecessary.
Perfect solution.
Nope
You like being able to cheat in elections, eh?
Nope I don’t cheat
#1. By making Election Day (or days) a holiday it would take away a current holiday we have. I wouldn’t wanna give up Thanksgiving or Christmas.
#2 people travel and are not always in their jurisdiction on a day that elections are held. They should be allowed to vote early or by mail in those cases as it’s their responsibility.
#3 requiring only paper ballots really delays things and if you combine that with only voting on one day the lines would be so long many would choose not to wait 8 hours to vote.
#5 many communities in the USA have local laws about Spanish or other languages regarding communication. Just making the ballot all English would not allow many people to opportunity for fair voting.
#4 I just use a drivers license when I go to vote. Now there will be a new card to remember to bring? Not logical
1) where do you get this dumb idea that a new federal holiday takes away from another one?
2) sorry - if voting is that important to you, you'll me arrangements
3) Several other countries can handle paper ballots without issue.
4) A driver's license is a government issued ID - are you really this dumb?
5) If you don't understand English how do you know the positions of the candidate you're voting for?
#1 it’s not a dumb idea. You can’t add another holiday and expect the nation to just accept it. That’s one less day of production and companies will not accept it, hurts the gdp. Otherwise why not just add 5 holidays?
2. Not sorry. Let’s say a relative dies or someone is planning a vacation. Not even that extreme there are people who live in different places for part of a year.
3. Several countries are also the size of Ohio. You are talking about the USA, with some cities being huge in number of voters.
4. I’m not dumb. Why even suggest it then? It’s currently how I vote by using my drivers license
#1 yes you can. It's done all the time
#2. You shouldn't be voting in local elections if you don't live htere.
#3. How did we manage before voting machines to use paper ballots, then?
#4 You're dumb because you didn't know that a driver's license is a government issued ID.
5. Thank you for agreeing with me. If someone can’t understand the English and there isn’t a secondary language they will be unable to vote well. Also it’s not just voting for potus, most ballots have local issues that have a paragraph or more of text to read.
I didn't agree with you. I stand on the position that if you can't read English, you should not be able to vote.
You said #4 is a CHANGE. Drivers license isn’t a change. So I assumed a new card would be issued
Then you stand to take away voting rights from residents of the USA. I don’t want to take away their rights
Not every state requires ID to vote. In fact, very few do.
Interesting you use the phrase "resident" rather than "citizen". That's very telling. Again, if you don't understand English, how can you be informed enough to make a voting decision? I'll wait while you try to make something up.
#2 I live in Florida and many people are “snow birds”.. they have a primary residence in the north and come down here during the winter months. Many of them are retired (the largest group of voters are retired people). So you would require so many people to literally fly in November just do vote for one day? That’s crazy
Because you can be informed in Spanish or German or… as I said there are communities in the USA where English and another language are used for government forms. As a registered Republican here in Florida I wouldn’t want to restrict people who don’t fully understand English from voting as they live here are have the right.
If you can't understand what you are reading, you shouldn't be voting.
We have the voting rights act. I’ll link it for you:
dos.fl.gov/.../
#3 there used to be a lot less people voting. Thankfully now as population increases and machines can allow efficiency we don’t need to all rely on paper ballots.
So now we rely on machines that can get hacked.
Paper ballots can be “hacked” also by dishonest pollsters. Thus far we have had fair elections aside from rare issues.
yeah, absolutely nothing abnormal about a statistically impossible jump
Thank you for agreeing with me
That's not how that works.
You said yes, nothing abnormal
right, just a statistically impossible jump. I forget you're not very smart, so you don't understand sarcasm.
Not only do I understand sarcasm but I can respond to it with sarcasm. However if you notice I’m not insulin you. Would appreciate less insults thrown in the discussion sir
Insulting (oops typo)
Then don't say dumb stuff.
Ty, thus completes my answer. Have a nice day
Absolutely YES
