What do you think of people who say "it's just my opinion" if their claim challenged?

For example, someone makes an argument claiming Earth is flat. Then I would explain why it isn't and question why they think so. They explain and we exchange arguments. Then after a long conversation, they're just going to say it's just their opinion in the end just when they're about to lose credibility.

In a nutshell,
Person 1: Earth is flat because of TikTok or whatever.
Person 2: No it isn't. *Shows millions of studies*
Person 1: That's just my opinion

I'm thinking that tactic getting too common now. Using the word "opinion" to shield themselves wrong being wrong because apparently nobody is right or wrong when giving an opinion. Also a way to disguise themselves for being dismissive. They would never say that if anyone agrees with them.

I think some people have unrealistic ideas about what correction means and view judgment in unnecessary binaries as either non existent or severely punitive and cruel. This refusal to moderate their understanding of judgment causes them to deny all responsibility when they err because they think accepting their error demands that they view themselves in vainly aggressive and deeply self hating terms.

They clearly are very attached to that belief and honestly don't even intend to lend an ear to any arguments against it. 'It's just my opinion' means 'I actually really don't care about what you say because I'm way too certain in my own correctness'.

there's nothing that pisses normies off more than having irrefutable evidence

for example

- normie says feminism is about gender equality

- I say show me evidence that feminism is about gender equality

- normie says it's in the dictionary "definition"

- I show them evidence that feminism isn't about gender equality, not just words

- normie gets angry and says evidence of feminism being about gender equality exists

- I ask them to show me this evidence that counters my evidence

- normie makes excuses saying that isn't real feminism and it's just fake feminism

- I ask them to show me examples of real feminism including giving names

- normie can't give any names of real feminists

- I give an example of a feminist like Christina Hoff Sommers

- normie gets angry and says Christina Hoff Sommers is a pick me girl

- I ask for an example of a real feminist not named Christina Hoff Sommers

- normie comes up with Anita Sarkessian

- I bring up evidence of Anita Sarkessian's misandry

- normie gets angry and starts hurling buzzword insults at me lol

That depends on the context of how and when they said it.

It definitely can be a cop-out, but you also can just state your opinion if asked and not want to rebuttal about it. I think there is a difference between just stating it and arguing or preaching for it.

Also, sometimes people do not want to rebuttal at all or for long periods, since they have before and realized afterwards it was a huge waste of time. Again, it depends on the situation, since it can easily be a cop-out.

At that point, they have invalidated their argument, with a logical fallacy known as the subjectivist fallacy. This is when someone concludes that something is true for one person but not true for another person, when, in fact, it is true objectively for all persons.

And they "waste their time" making an argument or a claim in the first place. It's really funny how they just decide its is a waste of time when they know they're going to suck at arguing.

also you can pickup on cues over text and try to guess if someone is mad. that's what i was doing

I'm talking about those people who starts and argument and not finish it. Accusing someone of mad doesn't really change the fact that they just suck at continuing the argument which is what they started in the first place. If you don't like that kind of honesty, then you can go back to your safe space and let the grown ups talk.

It's fine to have an opinion that contradicts evidence, but you need to provide contrary evidence, or, at minimum, a rational argument to dismiss the presented evidence.
