... when they are absolutely wrong? I have a great friend who I met through a club I belong to. She is really intelligent, or you can tell she is by her way of speaking and how much she knows about the world. She visited me this weekend and she wasn't aware that I paint as a hobby. When I showed her the paintings I made done that are copies of the late Vincent Van Gogh, we talked about him and she told me he was Peruvian. She herself lived in a Latin American country, and at first I thought, maybe she is confusing him with someone else. BUt she continued saying, "He was a Dutch painter, but he was born in Peru. I read about him online and found out about it." I thought to myself--that's news to me, and very incorrect. I know for a fact he was born in The Netherlands and died in France, because I am a fan of his work and have been in Amsterdam. However, I didn't say anything. So when I showed her his paintings on my laptop, comparing them with the ones I had done, a page showing his birthplace showed up and I told her, "You see, C---, Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands, not Peru!" I can't remember her face now but it looked as though she was displeased that she was wrong, is how I remember it, or couldn't explain herself, so she said nothing or mumbled something about him being Peruvian. When I told her I had been in Amstersam and visited the museum dedicated to him, she was surprised. So, I was prepared to let he believe what she wanted to and continue talking without arguing. Would you have done the same? I'm glad that page showed up (on wikipedia on the left side of the screen) because she would have never believed me otherwise.
