Actually, in many states, they do both already.

We have a paper ballot that we fill out with a pen and filling in circles on the choices that we desire. Then, we hand-in the ballot into a machine that reads the ballot. So, the machine tallies the votes, but the paper ballot on which we originally cast those votes is still retained by the machine. Those paper ballots can then be used for a recount, if necessary. This is the paper ballot I filled out this past Tuesday (06 AUG 2024).

I know that is what Trump wants. I don't blame him either. Those lying, stealing, cheating democrats will do anything to win the election.

Which one is it?

It's a Mish max of anything and everything inbetween. Any kind of active attack over 250 to 300 different voting areas with completely different types of voting with completely different attacks need to over turn the election with out a single person noticing makes our voting as safe as possible.

The form of voting in of itself dosen't help anyone in patellar. Unless it's unclear who is been picked. Like Florida election back in 2000. In the same way push or pull can be frustrating.

I've also heard local governments refuse to update past windows 07 which doesn't have any support anymore. so paper is 1000x better then that.

Paper ballots gave their own set of problems.

Manual counting is error-prone. What if two ballots get stuck together? Inconsistent marking if the ballot forces the human ballot counter to guess what the voter intended. Transporting large numbers of paper can cause problems. The counting effort takes time.

I have never used a paper ballot. When I first started voting, it was a mechanical machine, with mechanical levers and automatic manual tabulation. Then along came electronics.

I have nothing against electronic voting machines... if the software is independently validated. Companies that refuse to do that, claiming their software is propriety is wrong.

I am against online voting. The Internet is too easy too spoof and change things.

Entirely up to you guys. While I am an IT professional it has not been an area I have spent any time in. So I am as amateur as most in security. I would ask though do companies and gov't bodies who do put effort into security get hacked?

Many other nations seem to be able to pull off elections within weeks using electronic equipment and know the outcome the evening of election day! Strangely they even give the winner of the popular vote the job!! How off is that!!! 🙄

No, it is a waste of time and paper and is far too subject to error and forgery. Moreover, the people that don't want this are the majority, and there is no reason we have to cater to Trump's bullshit. There have been no cases of election fraud in the US that could not betraced to Republicans, and very few of those - certainly not enough to change the results of an election.
