I had an ancestor who traveled from his farm in Wisconsin to attend the 1904 World Fair (Louisiana Purchase Exposition) in St. Louis. It made him practically a celebrity.
An ancestor fought in the Spanish-American War.
My paternal grandfather was a machinist and worked on the Panama canal in the early 1920s.
My dad was an infantryman in WWII, landed on Utah Beach (not in the first wave), fought in every major battle from the St. Lo Breakout, the Hedgerows, the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest, was with the first unit to liberate Dachau, and made it to the end of the war to occupy Germany after Germany surrendered. He was assigned as a "runner" during the war, taking messages back and forth between the front lines and forward command and had two purple hearts.
Dad was involved with WWII. So were 2 of his brothers. My uncle Howard was a Lt. Col. in the Air Force and, as far as I know, has an exhibit about him at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall. If I remember correctly, the name of his plane was, The Calamity Jane.
Which one? There was a B24 & B17 called calamity Jane. Also how does it feel when liberals call your uncle a war criminal?
B24 and NO ONE, that Iknow of, called him a war criminal until now!

I have an ancestor who was a Confederate Colonel and died at the Battle of Fredericksburg. His grandson fought in WW1 as a training and Armored Cav commander and in WW2 as a commanding General, also Armored Cav. His son fought in Vietnam, also in armored cav. In the Army NG, I was connected to a Tank Battalion. It's in out blood, I guess.
Did American soldiers fight in ww1?
yes, but I ain't allowed to talk about it.
ok, I heard the story... in short... an airplane in the USA some years ago crash landed on the east coast... with nuclear bombs in tow. Didn't explode, but was close call.
They didn't talk much about that... hush hush...
you probably don't want to know the things that go wrong...
Considering that most of us have ancestors that have fought in major wars, including WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc., there are many here young enough to consider them ancestors.
My father was in a German POW camp on the day that Germany surrendered. He said it was the only time he was really afraid. they all thought that the Germans would be bad losers and kill them all.
My great, great grandfather was a PITA in THE UK as a newspaper publisher and regularly fought with the crown over content - especially labor & union exposés.
Well now it's britain who surrender to islam, and without a fight, I think that it's a shame.
My grandfather was there and said yours pissed his pants
Your American so that's not true.
