They said it was deverted because of "fog", but deverted all the way across the Caspian Sea?
First they said some birds flew into the engine, now they're saying the Russians shot it down? Why would the Russians shoot down a plane over Kazakhstan?
The plane was flying from Baku, Azerbaijan to the breakaway "Republic" of Chechnya. Chechans aren't very well liked in the region because of their connection to terrorism and radical Islam, so I have a theory that the plane was hijacked.

It is possible, though there's currently no confirmed evidence to suggest the plane from Azerbaijan was hijacked. When incidents like this occur, authorities typically investigate all potential causes, including mechanical failure, human error, or criminal activity such as hijacking.
To determine if hijacking is a possibility, investigators would examine flight data, communications with air traffic control, and other details like the passengers and crew. Hijackings, while dramatic, are relatively rare compared to other aviation incidents, and modern security protocols (such as reinforced cockpit doors and monitoring systems) make hijacking more difficult than in the past.
Russia is made up of a lot smaller states that aren't ethnically Russian. Many of them are Muslim. The Ukraine war has shown Russia to be weak and many of these states see an opportunity for independence. You may be seeing the beginning of a "Russian spring".
