The "replacement rate" for the US is a touch over 2.1 kids per couple. Three kids per couple- for some couples in the mix- would work to help cover those who are only in touch for their own personal lives that would not include any progeny. (According to "Walrus" Magazine, it takes nearly $300,00 to raise a child to age 18 in Canada, and with our housing crunch, couples realize they can afford only one or two children).
