Today, it is once again a colossus. Very few countries have managed to become giants again after declining. I can't think of a single example.

This is easy to explain and it began around 1971...
In 1971, the United Nations, despite protest from the United States, kicked out the Republic of China (Taiwan) as representing China replacing it with the People's Democratic Republic of China (mainland China). The brought the Communist Chinese nation back into world affairs.
Then, in 1972, facing re-election, Nixon decided to play-off China and the Soviet Union since both Communist powers were no longer allies. So, in February 1972, Nixon traveled to China. 3 months later, he then traveled to the Soviet Union. These were major world events because US Presidents had never visited these Communist "enemies" before. The phrase "Only Nixon could go to China" entered the lexicon because Nixon, as Vice President during the Eisenhower Administration, was a famous anti-Communist. Nixon was very smart when it came to world affairs...
Anyway, what would eventually happen is that China became increasingly economically engaged with the West after Chairman Mao Zedong (or however you spell it this week) died in 1976. Reforms occurred under Chairman Deng Xiaoping. His reforms turning China from a hard Communist society into a market socialist economy was critical toward getting trade with the West. Eventually, China became increasingly acceptable to Western countries and trade increased.
In the West, we have unions and workers' rights and democracy.
No so in China where the government treats people like shit. The result is that the cost of labor in China was much lower than the cost of labor in the West, so a lot of manufacturing was moved there. "Made in Japan" became replaced with "Made in China".
So, China was always on the plus side in net trade which ultimately meant they were making money - money they could use on their military and big infrastructure projects.
And since China is a totalitarian state, they don't have to deal with all the legislative, regulatory, and judicial hurdles that Western democracies and their people and governments have to deal with. This means they turn around things much faster not giving a shit about what happens to their people or environment.
Karma will catch-up with them though...
1 usa shipped all of their companies to china for cheaper labor which boosted their economy and crippled the United states local industry & manufacturing. Counties pay China take their trash, they recycle it, turn it into products, and sells it to the world. China's tech industry boomed due to the boost in industrialization. Bush jr 1-sidedly forgave china's complete debt to the usa like a moron, causing the usa to decent further, while china had less debt to deal with.
So basically, corporate exploitative greed, and bad usa political actions.
I have a thumbs up to a few opinions … all those are correct…
1. Historically, China/the Han people have learned through governmenting through fair trade for thousands of years and were mostly very successful. They have learned from their mistakes. Most Empires failed because of weather related. They didn’t have enough crops. Simple way of putting it in a few sentences.
2 modern china (around the 70s) Nixon went to China and signed an agreement to open trade with China for cheap labors and to produce cheap products, this allow China to rebuild, learned from the west…. Now china is able to sell sustain again. It took 30-40 years. Trump is a business man… he is very smart, good with people and is doing what any leader should to protect their own country by being back jobs and factories to the US.
Since the mid-1970's they have been having a stronger economy. They actually pay their workers what the cost of living demands, unlike the US. Their USD is very strong now and has been for years. So, their economy just didn't spring up like that-it's been a gradual climb.

I heard it was because of Deng Xiaoping. He opened China up to the free market more and began the whole manufacturing boom in China. He also gave more freedoms to the people which were later taken away again. But I don't know that much about China tbh so this is just what I've heard.
Mao shut down China until his 1976 death, and even XI, an authoritarian (though not a mass murderer like Mao) realizes China would be wealthier with at least some outside economic partnerships.
Outsourcing businesses for the cheap, exploited labor in China is what gave China economic growth.
Blame it then on those countries and their corporations for giving them businesses to copy and thrive on that led to China's economic growth.
With all the influx of money and copied technology pouring in, their military growth soon followed.
China always was. In the 18th and 19th century western and Japanese nations carved it up thus weakening it economically then add to it the civil wars in the 20th century, Japanese invasion and collective farming it was held back. The biggest thing was getting rid of western empires after ww2, the return of Hong Kong has nearly closed that chapter all that remains is the lands Russia stole.
Because we keep buying cheap Chinese products and because western companies have relocated thousands of factories there in search of cheap labour. We've effectively paid for it's growth.
Chinas history is one of continuous fracture & unity and is rightfully reclaiming it's spot as the preeminent culture on this planet excepting the past 300 years. They are an exceptional & remarkable people!
The hundred years of humiliation was actually 1300 years because they didn't have an indigenous Han emperor in those 1300 years.
The last emperor was a Manchu and not Han..
A good argument can be made that China sacrificed millions of its own people for the sake of consolidating power and expanding it. Let's simply say that their system of corruption is different than that of the USA's.
because they monopolized the fabrication of most products worldwide thanks to their super cheap labor costs
They have returned to their old ways of economically sneeking in from the backdoor. Nothing new, actually. But the 'Western" world had been arrogantly at sleep.
No war and mix of full on capitalism / communism plus nationalism.
These are very smart, studious people who value education and who don't have an economic system that imposes a constant threat of starvation on people to get them to work.
At the rate we're going, we will have the decline in these 4 years unless people realize the danger we're in.
Their huge economy and national studiousness, though it is an authoritarian nation.
That giant resource vacuum is going to implode
Why do you think s?
@DrPepper12 come on dude, it's unsustainable
I think not. They plan in centuries, not quarterly earning reports. Their inroads to Africa & Latin America are EXTENSIVE & STRONG
Because the US let economic flat-earthers into power. Hopefully, that changes soon.
We let them. And they aren't yet. They cann't project power.
China is over 5000 years old civilization, it's nothing unusual.
You mean pooper power?
Because other superpowers are doing themselves in.
