I’ve lived most my life in Colorado. It used to be swing state which in my opinion is ideal because there is balance. But from 2008 and on (the democratic national convention was hosted in Denver that year) it had slowly become California 2.0 and definitely not in a good way. Surging crime, fentanyl, a sanctuary city for illegals (the tren de Aragua apartment takeover was true story), urban decay, skyrocketing taxes, deteriorating public schools, skyrocketing homeless rates, lots of “in your face” combative leftism, more aggressive drivers, more people being rude in general, etc. I’ve even seen open identifying communists in art district of Denver.
While I never expect the state to reverse course ideologically (it’s literally California 2.0 now) I thought there would be at least some shift during the November 2024 election. Instead Kamala Harris won almost as much percentage points (10 points) as Joe Biden did in 2020 (13 points). So really says a lot about the type of people who live here.
Anyway I’m not wishing for Colorado to turn into Texas. But we really do get the worst for the worst when it comes to radical leftist types out here. Their not any fun either. At least leftists I met in other blue states were usually involved with creative initiatives (art, music, comedy, theater, etc.). But out here they are usually just miserable and very combative.
And I’ve actually lived in Southern California for a years a little over a decade ago. While obviously a blue state the local leftists were not as “in your face” as much they are in Colorado. There something about leftists from blue states when they migrate to red/purple states. They feel an impetus to become missionaries.
Anyway I keep asking myself why I haven’t left. I got family out here so that’s one thing. But I feel a need to stay and fight back given it’s my home state. But I feel like I’m fighting as lost cause.
