A flag is a flag & cleaning your house is cleaning your house & before you think about using a flag to clean your house think of how many lives were lost because of that flag & what other individuals had to sacrifice because of it as well.

For one thing, flags are made out of hearty materials to withstand all types of weather. None of those materials make good cleaning rags. So if they were using the flag to clean the floors or something, it's because they ran out of used panties/shorts.

America is a free country. If you legally own the flag you can do whatever you want to do with it. Thst is what is so great about America.
Personally I have several American flags on my property and they do wear out. There is a facility at the dump set up by the Boy Scouts that accepts worn American Flags and disposes them in the prescribed fashion. I believe they get burned in some kind of ceremony.

Flags are a representation of the country we call our home. A symbol to show the world where we belong. It’s respectful to treat our home/country with kindness and love.

It is not a country's flag just because it is the same colour or pattern. A country's flag has an ISO standards or code or something for the fabric, the measurements, the colour codes, the pattern etc. Actual flags are only those flown on government buildings.

So yes, any fabric that merely looks like a flag even if exactly, is not a real flag and can be used as a rug.

And real flags can be burned as a sign of protest against the government.

Technically no, that violates US flag code. It’s also a violation to wear the flag as a piece of clothing like on a shirt or a hat too, but no one seems to really care about those violations so we may as well use it as a cleaning rag
