Be honest, would you trust a female mechanic?

It would be a new thing but my wife is a bicycle mechanic and runs her own shop (she isn't the only one in the country where MANY folk use bicycles either) and I have helped her at times when the tough bolts or nuts need to be fixed but levers and sorts can all be made to get things done these days.
As for motor vehicles it's often hard to reach parts that are where issues occur and with their smaller hands and frames, getting to those hard to reach parts is easier for smaller people in the first place.
It's NOT about the quality of the work for those who are so eye rollingly trolling. If they have the job or run the business then guess what? They have SHOWN they can do the job.
At the time I said that, it was accurate. It changed by the time that you saw the update
A very clear gender difference is that shortly after birth baby girls pay attention to faces whilst baby boys pay more attention to mechanical things. So I think mechanical aptitude is gendered.
IRL I find females will over tighten or under tighten with no mechanical sensitivity at all.. I have one at the moment who seems to be hell bent on wrecking my taps. Despite demonstrations and coaching it seems difficult for her to get.
Now anything can be learn't but if I am paying cash money, than I want inherent mechanical aptitude.
Yess ofc! I've acutally had women mechanics a couple times now and prefer them. in my opinion they work a lot faster and better but maybe they just see that I have kids and have some more empathy there in comparison to the mechanics who are men. They don't prioritize me in the same way it seems like I'm just another customer to them
Working a lot faster doesn’t mean that they’re better. if an HVAC technician came to your home, would you want the guy who is lighting quick and cuts corners, or do you want the guy who dots all the I’s and crosses all the T’s , and does a thorough job? You should know this going on 30 years old apple.
You clearly don’t understand what PTSD is
“I have some ptsd lol that was from slow men too.” Someone going slow with work doesn’t cause PTSD. I think you’re confusing PTSD with anxiety
And it wasn’t the slow work directly causing the anxiety. it was other outside factors
At least another woman would be good enough to actually teach me how to do it myself. Every time I ask a man he just does it and teaches me nothing
You’re assuming that just because it’s a woman she’s going to teach you?
Yes, seeing as you aren’t a woman and presumably have never experienced that community, you don’t really have the expertise to say how a woman would treat a woman in this scenario
lol, sure 👍
Yes, you’re correct. I’ve never experienced a woman mechanic. No offense, but I prefer my car to actually work
Sometimes you have ask to be taught. There are men out there who try to teach someone things. But they don’t want to listen because they want to rely on someone else to do it for them.
Well it’s different if you’re asking someone to do something for free verses paying someone. Some people expect someone to do something for free without so much as a thank you. But never want to learn how to do it themselves.
Sone people are nice and don’t mind doing it for some men it makes them feel more masculine. But that’s part of
The issue. If someone wants my help doing something but doesn’t even want to try
To learn how to do it. They aren’t worth my time after that
@Summeroflove I have asked every man in my life when I need simple help with my car and they don’t teach me, they just do it silently and tell me nothing as they finish it.
Then ask them to teach you. Because unfortunately some men like I say try to teach someone and they don’t listen. So they stop trying
I DID ask them. That’s the point I was making.

I wouldn't categorically say no. But since I don't know the mechanic that's working on my car I would not want to take a chance with a woman because I think she's less likely to be a good mechanic. So whenever you're in a situation where a stranger is going to be doing something for you, you want to pick the person most likely to be the best.
I'm sure there are some good female mechanics but in general I think that women are not well suited to that kind of work. I worked in construction years back and there were one or two women. There's no way they could either do the job as well as or keep up with the men.
I think it has been documented in studies that men have better skills at things like mechanical work due to brain differences.
That's probably why so women go into those fields. Has nothing to do with discrimination, it's about physical and mental differences that make men more suitable for some jobs and women for others.
The nature deniers don't want to accept that but who cares.
"That's probably why so women ***DON'T*** go into those fields. "
Thank you for speaking the truth. It’s reality that men just simply have more mechanical aptitude than women do. The world we live in now preaches to women that we’re all equal, and that they can do anything just as well as us. Sorry, but that’s just not true. We have differences that complement each other. A person who points that out is a “sexist.”
I learned many years ago that "equal" does not mean "the same."
I have had 50/50 experiences with male mechanics. Some are lovely and will call you up and explain what's going on and tell you how much it will cost to try solve the issue. And others will charge you for an air cabin filter change but they'll just flip it over. Twice now I've had mechanics say my driver side wing mirror indicator doesn't work, yet every time I check it works. So I don't know what they're doing 😂.
Don't think I've ever been to a mechanic that has a woman on the team.
There’s definitely a lot of bad male mechanics out there, who will pray on less knowledgeable women and men. I go to a place called Adventure Auto Repair. I’ve known the owner, Steve, for years. He’s a really good, honest dude and an excellent mechanic. It’s so refreshing to be able to trust your mechanic.
@winstanley2 lmao. Not sure what you’re getting bitter over. It’s not my fault you’re a retard who can’t think correctly or form a sentence that makes sense. Don’t get mad at me 😆
My Daughter won the Pitt Count Trophy in High school for auto mechanics. She worked at Jiffy Lube or 2 years and was first put at the front desk until she demanded to working the pit. One of my coworkers was a efficiency expert and noted after several months that she was 20% faster than her coworkers. Saturday and Sunday were Jiffy Lube's busiest days. The manager would not let her off on weekends because if he did, the guys would slow down. When she was there, they had to keep up with her. She is now an Ultrasound Supervisor with the same work attitude. Still likes to assemble and disassemble everything. Battles with OCD. My wife helped me with automotive challenges, Small Hands. I grew up in a neighborhood settled by WW2 aircraft mechanics and was introduced to mechanics by natural curiosity and the ever surfacing question, "What ya doin?"
Yeah- even though discrimination on the basis of sex is illegal- you can safely bet that women applying for mechanic jobs are subject to more scrutiny than men- the bar is higher for them. I would not have any problem having my car repaired by a female mechanic.
Sure, what is the worst that can happen?

100 % I would. I would trust a female welder/pipe filter
Iwould trust A female doctor.
I would trust a female Carpenter one hundred percent
I would trust a female Violin player one hundred percent
I would trust a female barber barbara one hundred percent
I would trust a female lawyer one hundred percent
I would trust a female Equipment operator one hundred percent
There's not really any jobs that I would not trust a female. Doing it
If this person has experience and training, the only problem I can see with a woman mechanic is the lack of physical strength to do some work, and if in a shop, there are always others to help with the few tasks that would challenge some women mechanics due to a lack of physical strength.
As long as she knows what she is doing. I don’t care which gender a mechanic is!
They are probably more thorough since she would be judged harder than a man.
Fair point. Doing a thorough job is important. For some strange reason, @Apple1996 seems to think whoever gets it done faster is doing a job well done.
I don't trust male mechanics already because there have been several instances where "because I'm a woman," they've tried to cheat me, rather than do work I actually needed, so what's adding a female mechanic to the list, a? Clearly if she were hired by whatever the company or maybe it's her own business, if she intends to keep her job or her business she would have to have some level of high competence, so again, why not?
Yes, automobiles today are very sophisticated and need extensive technical training to work on them, . There is less emphasis on brute strength and more on technical knowledge.
If she has a job surely she hasn’t fucked anything up so why would her being a woman play a factor.
That’s definitely not accurate. Professionals fuck things up all the time
This industry is traditionally dominated by men, so many people including women would have difficulty with trusting a woman. You don’t have to like it, I’m not even saying that’s how it should be, but it’s reality.
Obviously she hasn’t fucked up anything to the point that she would lose her job. And I understand that there are a lot of ignorant people that wouldn’t trust a woman mechanic.
Having a different perspective than you doesn’t mean that someone is ignorant. We all have different experiences in life that shape who we are as an individual. . you’re still pretty young, and have a lot to learn. so I’ll cut you some slack.
That’s the problem now. People want to claim their ignorance as “different perspectives”. It’s the same shit as when someone has racist views or believes something blatantly false and then tries to claim that people don’t respect their “perspective”. If someone doesn’t trust a mechanic because of their gender, race, etc. then they are ignorant plain and simple.
Okay. That’s your opinion, and you’re entitled to it. Nothing in life is that black and white. The problem is that when you start accepting your opinions as factual, you make yourself look foolish. You see buddy, there’s the idealistic world, and there’s the real world. In the real world, we are not all equal just because of some ideology saying that we are. I’m all for women being respected, but we are not equal.
Well for starters do you know what equal means in a political and societal sense? Second, how “equal” would a woman have to be to a man to work on your car? Being a mechanic doesn’t take a lot of strength so what makes a woman not equal to a man in that regard?
In general, men definitely have more mechanical aptitude than women do. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just kidding themselves lol
That doesn’t mean that a woman doesn’t have the capabilities to be a mechanic. If a woman and man both went through whatever training, mechanics go through and both learned at the same rate and perform at the same level then that would mean that there’s no difference in their abilities, therefore not trusting a random mechanic because they happen to be a woman is ignorant.
Probably not. The last one I trusted stripped the threads on my oil plug and then just glued it back on.🤦♂️
Vote in the poll please
Why shouldn't I? Women are less capable of certain functions than men but not technical things that are not based on physical strength.
No , just like how I won't trust a male babysitter or daycare worker
It’s a case by case basis. There are plenty of men I would never want working on my vehicle. It’s more about merit not about DEI…. So I don’t have a issue with either if they are qualified.
Nope. I do as many of my own repairs as I'm able to, and fully expect to get screwed anytime I have to rely on someone else to do a job that's beyond me, regardless of the mechanic's gender.
Do you know how many male mechanics are crooks? Why do I expect any more or less from a female?
Yes I would. Asking this question in 2005, maybe. Asking this question in 2025 is crazy work.
I don't see why not. Hell, one of my friends owns a garage and his wife turns wrenches with him, and one of the best parts of her being a mechanic too is the fact that she can get into tight spots that she can't get into.
Sure, if the place has a good reputation she must be there because she knows what she's doing.
It takes a special type of woman if she wants to be a mechanic. Therefore I think then should be thrusted because they probably will be good mechanics if her interest are there
women are more detail oriented, so in my opinion I think they would probably be better. Being a mechanic is mostly about paying attention. If I had a dollar for everytime something got left off when someone repaired it i'd be rich.
Depends.. on how she talks and looks if I would think she is competent or not..
Sure... As long as she has the necessary qualifications, I don't see any reason not to trust her. I've met many male mechanics I didn't trust.
Yes, my to-go mechanic for my Harley is a woman, and one of the best in my area.
no bc i don't trust mechanics period lol
they charge too much...
Of course. What does that have to do with her talents?
I'm not a misogynist, so no.
I'm not from some sheltered temple and can think outside of the box.
Apparently something is wrong with your thinking because that didn’t make any sense
It made perfect sense.
I'm not sexist. So i don't believe one's sex can affect one's competence. there is no reason why women cannot be competent mechanics.
And people who think that way are often limited mentally by their childhood temples. it is what it is.
Reread the question, then look at your response. I’ll wait for you to figure it out 😆
You sound like a sexist retard. If she has the education and skill why not? Be fucking normal for once
Plenty of women said no, so it’s obviously not sexist pink anon. No need to get your panties in a wad. Jesus. It’s a good topic of discussion
Are you retarded? You simply don't know what a feminist is lol proved my point
Yes I do, lmao. Do you see anyone else in the comments who’s offended? You look like a butt hurt idiot right now
Yes. I can ask a few questions to sort out most of the phonies. Just look at Happy Quinn on Scorpion! ;- )
Like anything a shop feedback is going to be more valuable than genders of mechanics. Actions speak volumes.
100% all the time. Fuck I may even marry her.
Yes, of course I would, but I can't drive, and I don't have a car.
I wonder why some women feel "offended" by the question :P
Any female that is into mechanics must definitely be good at it because it's rare to see female in this field.
If she knows what she is doing. Women do a good job with fine work.
i really don't care what gender a mechanic is. i judge by apparent competence.
I have. I’m an aircraft mechanic and in my experience women are excellent at structural repair and assembly. Remember Rosie the riveter?
I would trust a female mechanic if there was one. There are just exceedingly few of them in the world.
Depends on for how many years she has been a mechanic
Well I think it's the same with driving... You really don't need physical strength to do it right. It's all about your attitude and motivation
Sure lol if she knows what she's doing
Sure why not maybe trust them more not to be taken for a ride.
Probably more than a male mechanic!
No i want my car to work lololololoololol
yes and i have
If she were good, why not?
they wouldn’t be looking like that
Looking like what?
I’m confused
sometimes you can’t see the picture gag puts a picture for you, but it’s in the live feed on the question. I took a screenshot for you. I’m saying I never seen a female mechanic looking like this and I don’t think I’ve ever really seen a female mechanic before
https://postimg.cc/ctB1c4V2
Are you saying she’s really pretty? lol. She has a tomboy look. I think that’s actually a pretty accurate representation of a female mechanic. lol
and here comes the sexism. as always.
It’s not sexism kiddo. It’s reality that men have better mechanical aptitude. Reality doesn’t care about your feelings. Sorry
yeah no its not. where have u heard that?
Where have I heard it? that’s adorable. I have twice as much living experiences as you. You see unlike you, I don’t need to hear things from others to be confident of my beliefs. that’s the difference between an adult and a kid.
Absolutely.
Sure, why not if she is good at it?
Yes. Why not.
Absolutely. I’ve watched, My Cousin Vinny
Nope
Depends on her qualifications
I’m neutral
Why not?
