bumpkin
An unsophisticated person. Not very intellegent or interested in culture.
Generally refers to someone living in a rural area.
Bumpkin is a derivative of bum, “the rear end. It may come from either the Middle Dutch word bommekijn, “ a little barrel,” or the Flemish word boomken, “shrub" Such a person may easily have been compared to a block of wood;
That country Bumpkin just sits on his porch and whittles.

A country bumpkin is a term used I think in England but all around UK and commonwealth maybe that refers to someone who has low experience of living in urban areas of civilisation. They tend to be lacking in street smarts and can be thought of as naive. However, there's a strong chance they could be highly independent and able to do plenty of survival skills without too much thought

The term can be a bit of a bumfuzzler ain't it. These days it refers to an uncultured uneducated rural person, think of cleatus out of the Simpsons.
Originally it was a Dutch insult.

It's not necessarily a redneck. It's a kinder old school reference for someone who comes from a rural place and is assumed to be naive, less educated, ignorant, and therefore more susceptible to people who may cheat or manipulate them. Less "street smart" is probably a good way to translate it to modern language.

I don't think it carried the cultural or IQ judgement that the term Redneck carries.

It's what us non- country bumpkin call a country bumpkin! Us non- bumpkins live in small towns of like 2 or 3 thousand up to 17-18 thousand. It's a play on pumpkin pickers.

I grew up in the Los Angeles area.
My wife and I bought a house on 30 gorgeous acres in a peaceful rural part of northern California in 2002. I prefer the term landed gentry. LOL

I personally am not. But my wife is originally from a very rural area and I love travelling out there.

A bumpkin is a short fat awkward person in reference to Dutch people that were known to be short and dumpy. It comes from the Middle Dutch word bommekijn meaning "little barrel".
