I am currently started attending a Christian college which I do think it’s alright for so. I like the fact that it’s Christian and I don’t know about the people because I don’t know if they’re really nice or not. I am autistic and I don’t always see the realities or have high hopes. I joined a multicultural community club and bible studies. My mom told me, “Well let us tell you this and listen carefully. Just because it’s a Christian college doesn’t mean there won’t be racism. Don’t be surprised that it happens.”
I told her, “I know. Racism and discrimination is EVERYWHERE.”
Then my dad said, “Not only that but not everyone is going to be friendly either. Also just because it’s a Christian school, doesn’t mean everyone is going to be kind to you. So don’t think you’re going to have 100 friends or everyone will like you because not everyone is Christian like.“
Okay that hit hard. I’ve had my fair share of fake people in middle school, high school and early adult hood.
I said, “W…well I know not everyone will be nice or like be but I thought since is a Christian college…..”
Dad cut me off and quickly responded, “Yeah but it doesn’t mean there won’t be mean people.
I complained to my sister and she said, “Why are you complaining about that? You better listen to mom and dad. They’re telling you straight facts. Not everyone is nice in Christian communities or people taking advantage. I hate to tell you this but with you being autistic, you’re very naive and dense about people and everyday problems. You’re not that great with your surroundings and you’re don’t see red flags with toxic people. They’re just looking out for you. Plus they don’t want you getting your hopes up because you tend you not think realistically.”
