Charlie Kirk, an influential figure in conservative politics known for mobilizing young voters and who was close to President Donald Trump, died Wednesday after being shot at an event in Orem, Utah, according to Trump. He was 31. Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University as part of Turning Point USA’s first event on a tour of college campuses. The university said in a statement that a single gun shot was fired at the event. A spokesperson for the University told the New York Times that there is no suspect currently in custody for Kirk’s shooting. An earlier statement from the school reported that a suspect had been taken into detained, but was determined not to be the shooter.
