Herodotus was pretty unreliable and seems to have liked stories about how odd people were outside of Greece. I don't believe the peeing story at all.

Before the Industrial Revolution, weaving was part of the normal outputs of the agricultural workforce when there and because it was reasonably physical, it was mostly men that wove. The female part was to spin.

An element I think you have missed is that with 50% of women divorcing when both children get to elementary school, most boys will not have a relationship with a mature man. Aside from fathers getting kicked out of the family home, their are almost no male teachers at any level of school nor at university.

@exitseven Quite probably not till they are out in the workforce. I don't know about you but I think as a boy I always assumed I could do what my father could do and learn't a lot just by watching him. Strip a lawn mower engine down for example.

As it turns mother only households (with so much divorce i think we need to lump unmarried mothers in with divorced mothers together as a category) have a higher percentage of children that end up in jail, on drugs, poorer academic results and lower social skills than with father only households and father & mother households.

Children in father only household do only slightly worse than those in father & mother households. Those in mother only households have inferior results.

It is quite a lot of social engineering to have a lot of children raised solely in female environments at home, at school, at uni till in the workforce.

@Gospeedracer Yes there are a lot of factors and you could pick on a lot of aspects validly. I think the near systemic elimination of men in child raising has to be the major one. Boys don't have a masculine image in which to see themselves. But girls don't have a benign masculine presence as well.

There is a lot of evidence that girls with a good relationship with their father, form better and more stable partnerships with.

SoCal child agency noted that girls without a present father developed 'male hunger' (their term). A lot of divorced mothers are antagonistic to the father and actively turn the children against him and by corollary men in general.

Girls will see their single mother run through a lot of men who will encourage their daughter to do the same. .

There are some that have to have the notion that they will face divorce, loss of reputation, their children, their career, their education, the wealth they have accumulated from decades of hard work and even their freedom. This is what Western women have become.

Men are best advised not to marry but to have temporaries and rentals instead. Kind of like leasing a car instead of buying it. That way. when it becomes troublesome or unreliable, you can return it and get another one.

The accuracy of Herodotus has often been questioned. Additionally Ancient Egyptian society was patriarchal. Women held property in their own name more than in greek society, however they were still under the authority of fathers husbands and brothers. It is true though that once we get too far away from our roots patriarchy declines. I personally am ok with this, but it is true. There are a couple of reasons for this. Women don't need the protection of their male relations as much they can depend on the law. Raw strength isn't needed as much with technology.
