m 4 momy father is a very smart man... also in business, he also always liked to talk to me sometimes as if I were not the kid that I was, lol
it was January of 1994, and the NAFTA deal had just kicked in... my father told me, it's time for you to learn a little bit about "money", I liked math, so... living in the border between two countries also meant that money exchange was a daily thing... from dollars to pesos, and he said I need to learn and understand because things might get a bit rocky, and then yes
few months later... the entire economy of Mexico collapsed, and a whole lot of things changed forever and our whole lives changed as well, 1994, 1996, 1998... growing up on both sides and witnessing the collapse and ruin of so many lives, or ways of life... and just so consumerism, which reigns today... had it much better for a few billionaires and trillionaires today
that was "big news" for our region, at least20 Reply 831 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I was barely 4 years old but it’s 9/11 for me too
I don’t live in the US but my dad was there at the time
He even took a flight from NYC to Boston just one day before the attack
We have no way to confirm it but it’s possible he was on one of the planes that later got high jacked
I remember my mother watching the news an sitting by the phone waiting for him to call and say he’s ok
He was. And later came home, and never went back to the US after that
(My mom was too scared to let him…)10 Reply- 2.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
4 moThe space shuttle Challenger exploding shortly after takeoff in 1986. Our skool had just acquired televisions for every classroom, connected to a network of educational stations and news outlets. We were watching the event live as Christa McAuliffe made her historic ascent to be the first teacher and, i think, first civilian in space. We were going to get to watch her deliver a lesson from orbit, and we were on the list of skools she might have visited upon return to talk about what she learned as well as the importance of kids being more invested in the sciences and technology. Watching the explosion was so unbelievable as to feel surreal. I had never felt that way before and wouldn’t again until i saw the airplane fly into the south tower live on the news on September 11, 2001.
10 Reply 2.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
I was about 6 or 7 and they showed him getting shot in the car. We didn't have color TV because I remember they showed black and white TV about the entire thing for weeks!
I was too young to see that every day and it gave me terrifying nightmares.
I would dream President Kennedy was under my bed and was going to reach his arms out and grab me with his arms. I still remember those nightmares.20 Reply- 1.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
4 moBeing born in 83 and likely not paying much attention to news until maybe 93 at the earliest my best guess like you would be 9/11 which I would expect even 5 yr old's on that date will forever remember that event.
Would love to see this question repeated10 years from now and see the remarks! LOL
10 Reply Challenger exploding. I remember watching it on the TV and eating cereal.
After that, it's probably the aberlin Wall coming down. My mum status in front of the TV and said, you are watching this. It's history, and I want you to see it with your own eyes
10 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It was small news. It was about a man that never grew out of a child’s body. ☹️
