Why do people need to live in huge mansions if there is just one person?

I understand your rich but if your never home and its just you I don't understand why you need a huge house.

Well let's be real. When we were kids, we all thought "I want a mansion with 100 rooms so all my loved ones can live there without a worry, a gym, a pool, a hot tub, a sauna, a huge kitchen where everyone can eat and party, a beautiful bedroom, washrooms that look like spas, a theatre room, a game room, and just every room you can think of so you have it all there."

But then we grow up and learn to be realistic. Especially when they're located in pretty rural areas, people don't get them to show off money. A lot of people just want what they want. I don't think there's a crime in that.

As for me, my dream is no longer anything like that. I want to build a campervan and live in that for at least a few years, then build my own off grid house and settle down there for the rest of my life.

some own a few mansions within the same block radius. They also own other properties and lots of life insurances, and sticks and.. These are assests banks can’t protect.. they also go up in volume.
the goal of the rich is to not lose their money.
fo you have other ideas how they should protect their assets?

I suspect that it's about showing off. I've lived in a big, rented house on the waterfront and I'd never want to do it again. I'm much happier living in my own little cottage.

It's not about living in a mansion 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦people do that because bank fdic only insures up to $250,000 after that you're screwed. Mansions serve multi purposes besides living in. They serve as an asset for all their money in nonliquid form until sold and as an investment to potentially make more money

10million dollars can't just be regularly deposited in a bank and insured by fdic so it gets invested in real estate aka mansions as in a 10 million dollar mansion converting dollars to physical property

Well for some people it’s a status thing. For many…. Many people like space they like having all the amenities that a big home can provide. Such as workout rooms, a big kitchen, indoor as well as outdoor pools and hot tubs. You can’t fit too many things into a small house and small land.

They also may want to have large parties and/or social gatherings

It seems to me it's like a business card with your logo on it. If you're that wealthy, and you move in those circles you need to show that you can handle money and you understand the culture. That way you will be trusted by other wealthy people. They'll want to do business with you and you'll be in the loop with them. There is just no way these people have the time to use any of this stuff.

Well, I guess if it's a huge mansion and I'm the only one there then that way if one room gets really dirty I won't have to clean it for a really long time 'cuz then I can just move to another room.

... Actually one purpose I can think of for having wealth while only having what you need is the excitement to create more wealth, more capital accumulation. Cognitively speaking, it seems to be attractive, often enough !

I used to think it is to show off but now I think it is a massive investment.

Once you own something, what happens to currency you used to purchase it no longer matters. If the dollar gets destroyed in value, the object still remains.

I can only speak for myself, but I like large spaces because it doesn’t make me feel constrained in the sense of limited movement - would you rather stay in a box or a big box if money wasn’t an issue? In short, more space = more freedom.

Some of us like a lot of space. I have a house that's way too big for me. Although I would not call it a mansion. And I bought this house because the space comforts me and I enjoy it. Also, my cat Alister likes it.

If I had a plethora of $ I'd need a bedroom, work room, 1-2 entertainment rooms, a kitchen, and a dining room. I may have large pantries and such, but I really don't need that much.
