But could you survive if the government limited your fuel. For the sake of argument let's say one tank per fortnight.

You are exactly right just like the toilet paper because this is the start of them of every country getting control of their people no fuel you don't go no place no truck drivers to transport food to the stores no food power grids go down no power banking institutions quit Elite wealthy open up their own currency their own bank we have to put our money in their bank so now they have full control over everything
Most of the farmers have been bought out in America from China as about the property they're not growing any food we are getting our food from different countries the tariffs in the Embargo stop so now they can't bring in any more food they're getting set up they have their plan to take control of us all fuck them every country's people will not stand for this
not in America not in England not in bum fucked Egypt it doesn't matter. All countries will governments will do it all at the same time
And I do Apologize to Egypt I was just trying to make a point
It doesn't matter what country it is it's going to happen or it's going to try to happen
My job is the kind of job that happens at a customer's house or business, and requires a considerable amount of tools and supplies to accomplish. My service radius is about 75 miles. Fuel restrictions like this would literally end the entire construction industry, the repair industry, and many others.
America is a BIG place and the vast majority of us don't live where we work, because we don't want to be packed into a big city. The country, especially in the west, was built on the automobile for the last 100 years or more, so anything that significantly disrupted that would be political suicide. Which is why Gavin Newsom has killed his political career (he has forced stricter regulations on oil refineries that make them unprofitable, causing them to shut down, affecting the supply of gas in 6 states).
Most gasoline cars can drive on Ethanol or ethanol-gasoline mix, with liquid gas installation they Otto engines can drive with liquid gas. Problematic are diesel engines used in trucks or farm machines.
Not only that by refraction of 1 barrel raw oil more light fraction used for gasoline can be distilled than diesel. Demand for diesel is higher since most machines use diesel because it's higher energy density and lesser flammability.
I don't think there will be lack of gasoline for my car but rather there will be no diesel to bring this gasoline to gas station or food to groceries that I would need a car.
I live less than 5 kilometres from 3 grocery stores so I could survive without money for gas if I had to, my dad can also work at home if the snow is bad and driving is impossible because his work can be done online.

I currently work from home own 2 cars and only have to fill them once a month so depending on how they ration I should be fine it's just the proposed 50mph limit that is annoying I remember when a big chunk of the M1 was limited to 50 mph and that was tedious to drive
I'm in exactly the same situation. I own two fuel sipping sedans that I generally need to fill once a month. Gas prices and rationing are not a huge concern for me. What will become annoying is the inevitable hoarding that 90% of the population is going to engage in.
Yup the biggest problem with a perceived fuel shortage is the panic buying that drains petrol stations before there projected delivery dates
My relatives lived through rationing during World War II. I could survive with rationed fuel (gas, petrol). Now that I'm retired, I don't drive much anyway, and there are many stores and restaurants within reasonable walking distance.
@purplepoppy Per your update...
Not to worry. It's just several of us Americans complaining when the price of gasoline has increased 50 cents a gallon in the past month, unless one lives in California, where it has doubled from US$4 to US$8 a gallon. Most Americans don't realize how inexpensive gas is in the US, compared to the rest of the world. Using your example, many Americans would go nuts paying US$45 a week for gasoline.
I remember there was talk of rationing back during the energy crisis of 1974. Before the ration stamps were even printed my father knew where he could get counterfeit ration stamps. I imagine it will be like tht.
I cycle and if I travel greater distances I use trains, though sometimes I do hire a car and might affect me slightly.
If everyone rode a cycle there would be no crisis, and everyone would be healthier.
Everyone would have more money in their pockets, cars are expensive.
Also there would be less pollution in our towns and cities.
The shortage of fuel could be a blessing in disguise.
Buy a bike and live longer!
Are you talking about diesel or gasoline? Considering the facts that gasoline is a waste byproduct of crude-oil processing and that crude oil is a finite planetary resource that cannot be synthetically produced, eventual gasoline rationing is a factual inevitability. Most gas engines can be readily converted to run on gas-free alcohol blends, and suitable alcohols can be made in your back yard - though practical long-term use requires a few choice additives only some of which are sustainable, and not many of which are practical to produce in a non-industrial setting.
On the other hand, anyone who wants to can make a perfectly acceptable diesel analog in their back yard at any time - so if commercial diesel disappeared tomorrow, a lot of people would survive just fine... at least until the desertification of the planet makes growing fuel crops impossible.
In my current job, yes. My wife has an alternative way to go to the office, by train.
It would have been a problem before, when I had to travel 80 km a day back and forth. It certainly is a concern for taxi drivers and truck drivers, where fuel is an absolute necessity.
Yes.
I don't drive.
Why would we need to? We have enough oil right here and in Alaska to keep us in gas for the next 600 years!! We also have cars that can run on water. If the oil barons would only let us have them! We've had the tech since the late `50's to tool around like The Jetsons but, oil barons won't let us have that, either!!
Yes wed be ok. This happened in 1970's too. Actually, this is erily like 1970's.
God forbid we have to wear green bell bottoms again...
I drive a hybrid car.
Yes. I think I could.
I would drive with my bike to buy food. I will be more fit than now.
I would be more creative if it helps.
I would have more time and less appointments.
Yeah, not a problem. I have my bicycle and a bus station, a tram station and a train station near me.
Worth considering is the fact that all forms of mass public transportation worldwide are completely reliant upon the big 2 combustion fuels, too - just indirectly. They have their own underlying infrastructure dependencies, all of which substantially (if not entirely) require enormous quantities of fuel. Privately-owned passenger vehicles only account for about 7% of the diesel and gasoline use worldwide.
Yeah, but public transportation will not be affected by fuel rationing.
I can survive most anything that panics young people these days.
@purplepoppy No a problem for me. I use electricity.
I've done it before and I can do it again. Although when I did it, it was not legally mandated rationing, but it was still rationing. We also had 55MPH speed limits for many years.
I live 5 miles from my main place of work , not that I cannot work from home , and I own a petrol / hybrid and electric car. So survive , yup , just change car and car on regardless
I have two feet yes. The problems come from the cost of food and everyday shopping due to transport costs.
yes... but I don't substantially rely on fuel that much
a small ration would do just fine for me over here
Would not be an issue for me, my car runs on alcohol (flex fuel) and yes I can run on e100. Since it comes from corn, and corn is stupid abundant, it's unlikely to be rationed.
I think I could. I'd have to find a job that I could easily walk to, but that's about it.
In the city, bike lanes are my friends. So yep.
You put the guns away and instead you have bare knuckle fist fights to decide the problem. I would thrive
Can't you just politely discuss things and come to a gentlemanly agreement like what what we do.
Of course I’m always open for a professional discussion but when it comes to dealing with Iran, we’ve been discussing things for over 50 years and nothing gets done. They even took 50 of our Americans for hostages the Iran hostage crisis look it up when Jimmy Carter was the president. but I’m always up for diplomacy, talking things out working it out. Before we have to have a fist fight.
Fuck yes, because I have an electric vehicle in a country that relies on oil to produce electricity at about a 12% rate.
Yes It's a motorcycle I use so there's hardly any need for fuel for it
That's about how often we fill our tank anyway. 600km/400 miles a month, sure.
I really don't care about what happens, if there's fuel than i'll drive and if not than i'll walk or just stay at home...
They did that in the late 70s , odd and even plates but commercial vehicles were exempt
not a good economy , because people would just go to work. No movies or eating out or trips to zoo.
You guys rationed food well past WWII... good luck...
I've never driven, but winter may be challenging.
That is why cash is king look at the spivs during the war
Yeap. I got wood stoves for a reason.
I use public transport so yes.
And where does public transport get their fuel?
@integrale77 it doesn't. Most of the buses in my city are electric. Train and metro is electric too. And even if I use one with fuel, obviously a bus carrying 50 people would get priority with fuel rationing over individual cars
We have some electric buses here in the UK but most are diesel and last time there was a fuel shortage in the UK priority went to who got there first
I did in the 1970s...
Survival is easy 🥱😁
Sure, I don't drive anyway.
I dont need to go anywhere and have unlimited wood
Ues. My car sips gas.
Yes, not a lazy mofo.
