All the non-blue countries do. I guess Trump was lied to: "It was brought to my attention today that we're the only country that does mail-in voting. I call it mail-in cheating". Of course he believed it.

@DryGermanGuy Mail in voting should be allowed , however it is the unsolicited mail in ballots that need to be eliminated. For example, in the state I live in everyone who is on welfare automatically gets a mail in ballot. Who do you think all the welfare people are going to vote for? You have to request a ballot and have some proof of ID. We have the technology to make this work. It is democrat politicians that do not want it.

There were several election integrity audits published recently - one checked a billion votes since 2000. They found 31 fraudulent votes. 1.000.000.000 versus 31. I’m guessing you’ve never signed up for a website that asked you to create your own personal security questions and then come up with your own personal security answers. Right? Both you and Elon could never find my mother‘s maiden name on the database because I wouldn’t give her real maiden name. Does Elon Musk know who my favorite teacher was? Is that on the database somewhere? How did I get on the database? I would create 10 security questions and none of them would be on any database other than the one in my head. No one is going to waste their time, jumping through hoops to try and steal my one vote.
During voting season you will find dumpsters full of discarded mail in ballots. But you won’t find my system in a dumpster.
And having to stand in line at a polling station is why most people don’t vote.

On the contrary, you are putting far too much trust in computer systems that can be compromised, especially by an untrustworthy government or powerful people.

The government would obviously have to have the questions and answers, real or fake, in their databases, otherwise they can't check them. If the people running your website want to pretend to be you, it's trivial. In fact they don't even have to bother, they can just change whatever they want in their database, the security is to stop external people from getting in.

If you were willing to commit a felony by intercepting my mail, yes, I suppose you could, conceivably, cast an illegal vote. The point you seem to be missing is that sort of thing almost never happens, and if it did, every vote in person by someone whose ballot was stolen would raise a red flag.

Bigger risks come from people passing laws that exclude entitled people from voting, even if it's just for one election at a time.

If there's no paper involved in an election, it's impossible to check the vote counts. And if you're using an app, it's impossible to verify the vote without associating your vote with you - goodbye secret ballots.

Or, they could simply choose a few thousand people in each state who have never voted and fake their votes with a very low chance of being caught.

Some states use four digits of your social security number to verify your name; we know Musk has stolen government databases under cover of DOGE, so that's now trivial to fake.

You're also overstating what those countries really allow with internet voting. The only one that is all-in is Estonia, and that's about the size and population of New Hampshire. Well, obviously not, but how many have had votes cast for them in any given US election? 10? 20? Out of 150,000,000. Now, what if 10% of women who've taken their husband's name so their name doesn't match their passport or birth certificate can't vote? That will be hundreds of thousands of ballots. Add to that that the law doesn't even fund the states to implement its requirements and puts election officials in legal jeopardy if they make a mistake, and there will be chaos.
