Why are democrat politicians fighting the SAVE America act?

There have been very few things that the Democrats have been fighting as hard for even though %70 of democrat voters and 85% of all Americans want this bill voted onto law. Only 5% of democrat politicians are in favor of it. They are purposely ignoring the will of their constituents. Why are they doing this?

If there is voter ID it will be harder for them to cheat.

If there is proof of citizenship it will make it harder for them to cheat.

If mail in ballots are limited it will make it harder for them to cheat.

If ballots must be received by Election Day it will make it harder for them to cheat

Because it is an unconstitutional poll tax... but also, most Americans dont have a passport ($200) & many dont know where their birth certificate is ($25)... if you're a married woman you would also need to have your marriage license/ change of name order.

To boot, there were only 15 cases of voter fraud/ voter registration fraud in 2020, and only 1 was an immigrant and he registered but didn't vote... even then, statistically thats inconsequential.. so what is the real point? To protect against a made up problem? Or to gum up the works?

Im ignorant, im assuming you're for it. What are some negative repercussions if this were to pass, and does it outweigh the good it intendeds to provide? Birth Certificates can get really complicated with married woman. My grandmother before passing was trying to correct her legal docs on her properties as they were listed under her nickname and not legal birthname and maiden name. So it was a whole issue getting that resolved. Im sure the motive is good, im more interested in the guardrails that shoreup any pitfalls in the bill aswell as any hidden legislation stowing away within.

It's actually none of the above. It's about power and control. Voter ID causes the political parties to have less control over the voters. Republicans don't really care about this but Democrats do. The Republicans have made an error though in tacking on transgender amendments to the SAVE act, which makes it harder to pass than it was only voter ID.

A lot of people don't have easy access to their ID's despite being in the country their whole lives. When I wanted a passport I had to write to the county of my birth for a copy of my birth certificate - turns out the ones the hospital gives you are decorative only.
