What do you think of celebrities who are generally quiet about politics?

Do you assume they don't have strong opinions one way or the other? That they're just not interested in politics? That they're secretly conservative (since most are openly on the left)? That they don't want to abuse their influence? They just don't think it's everyone else's business?

Well, politics is naturally polarising. So it usually doesn't involve a very high level of consciousness. These incessant arguments, don't serve to defeat your political dichotomy; but rather, bolster them, by reinforcing an us versus them paradigm.

So if you're an artist, surely the point of art is to transcend physical existence: The humdrum.

Talking about politics is a very dangerous game.

There was an artist who's music gave me a lot of solace. I then get an email before her gis, which literally was not written any better than: 'Don't bother coming if you haven't been vaccinated'. Suffice to say, well, I don't listen to her anymore. And demanded a refund off see tickets: Thanks to paypal, I managed to succeed.

Having said that, if I was in the public eye, I likely would have spoken out about covid. Because most were far too cowardly to put their heads above the parapet. Plus it was a genuine moral concern. Going along with it was destructive, reckless, myopic, and flat out stupid.

Remember Ashley Judd opening up her big mouth and said "If Trump wins the presidential election I will move to Canada"? Well, he did win and she never moved to Canada!

There used to be a notion that who you vote for was between your conscience and the ballot box, perhaps they still believe that.

Most usually do have a side they're on but choose not to be vocal for fear of getting hated by the public. Or at most they have mixed political views that will make people on both sides unhappy.

The only vocal ones are Republicans like Tim Allen, Kevin Sorbo, Kirk Cameron, and others who "got sick" of liberal Hollywood and figure they have nothing to lose by being open about their views - although Kirk truly is your textbook case definition of a conservative evangelical. Or Democrats like Martin Sheen, Susan Sarandon, or Taylor Swift who see no point in being quiet about issues that affect the country or the world, and they know they're big enough to do what they want and don't care.

At the end of the day though it's safe to say the majority of celebrities are very likely "left leaning," and they probably figure that speaks for themselves.

They are smart not to alienate fans.

Personally, I'm not influenced by the opinions of celebrities. But if they are pro-Israel or pro-trans, I don't like them. And if they are anti-Israel and/or anti-trans, I respect their courage in speaking out.

I think most celebrities are trying to protect their careers and earning power. They don't want to get in the middle of political bullshit that could ruin them financially. And they probably realize their opinions ultimately have very little real impact.

It could be a number of reasons including the ones you named. But I think too some of them realize that people look to them for music, to make movies, not politically bs. So they understand that people aren’t tuning into them to listen to their view on politics. That most of us just want them to dribble the ball, sing or whatever talent it is that they have that we pay to watch them do. I want to be entertained, not lectured.
