u 1 mofor me, there's three important factors...
awareness, preparedness and readiness
the foundation of safety is always awareness... know the risks, how to recognize them and also how to evaluate them more properly... and then, this becomes more of a calculated risk... have the odds working for you rather than against you, as much as possible of course... lol
then you have preparedness and readiness... which might sound similar but they're not the same
have a plan in advance, protocols if needed... gather the tools and the knowledge, become skilled with it as well, and this is when the readiness starts... having a plan but also being able to follow through with it
and last but not least... communication
always communicate and coordinate with the other ones in your life, community, etcétera...10 Reply

1 moI think that’s a confidence issue. I rarely feel unsafe. There are multiple reasons for that. The few times I felt unsafe, I was in a situation where I could be hurt badly but not necessarily killed, and I had little to no ability to mitigate the risks. I was only scared because my safety was in others’ hands. Ironically, more often than not I was putting myself in those situations deliberately; skydiving, white water rafting, daredevil climbing and dumb stunts, et cetera. The underlying inspiration being more thrill based than fear based. I have gone looking for a fight many times, including “dangerous” places.
I had a couple of weeks ago my first bad dream in decades. It caught me completely off guard and I’m still sort of searching for the meaning therein.10 Reply
1 moFeeling safe means having peace of mind , knowing I can be myself without fear, pressure, or constant stress. It means being in an environment where I feel calm, respected, and emotionally secure, without having to constantly protect myself or overthink people’s intentions.

1 moFor me safety is about having enough money in the bank to cope with government fuck ups. As for physical danger from humans that's pretty rare around here so I don't worry about it.

1 moSecure in Christ's salvation. Only security there is... and security is essential.
Safe at home yes. Thankfully my wife and I and the step kids are good, there's peace in this home and that reverberates outwards. Thank GOD! I've made peace in each community I've lived in, and it helps. But there's always those whom are not.
But there is no such thing as totally secure outside the above. Death is a moment away, life will change. Suffering optional and hope doesn't happen that way.
10 Reply 2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Safety is physical safety to me. It starts off with where you live. I have lived in tough places and nice places. Pay the extra to live in nice places it might save your life or your families lives. I still carry a knife in the car. Sometimes I have a concealed carry pistol, either a small pocket gun (.32) or a 9mm with 17 rounds in it. I was expert in the army with a pistol so I feel better with it but it has been a few years since I carried. I once went to work during some riots in a city with an AK pistol with an extra magazine.

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 mo"Safety" is having "f*** you money". It's not about being rich. It's about putting yourself in a position where you never have to be beholden or walk hat in hand to anyone, hopefully for forever (i say hopefully because life does not come with guarantees) And to me that's over 1.2 million. I always joke that the day I become a millionaire will probably be the same day our financial system collapses completely and that million becomes worthless.😆
I love this scene from the movie the gambler. I'm not a loan shark like John Goodman's character but we think along the same lines.

m 1 moTo me, it means feeling relaxed, unbothered by the prospect of bears coming for me.
I do feel very safe in my country, but I also don't test my luck in the ghetto.
I do not feel relaxed when my sister/girlfriend/daughter wanders at evening and night alone, but I also can't tie them to a chair. So I'm working with what there is.

1 moSafety is something I look at on a scale. It's something I think about / am aware of constantly. Old habits die hard. But it's usually simmering at a very low almost subconscious level. Very seldom does it reach a level where I am actually devoting all or a significant part of my attention to safety / security where I live in the USA. Other areas of the USA can be very different.
10 Reply Safe means being able to walk the streets, even at night, without having to look over your shoulder. Safe means not having anyone break into your house.
There are certain areas in a bigger town nearby where it's best not to venture alone at night. But everyone knows that. If even the police don't go in, except in full combat gear, you know there's certain things that are not legit.
10 Reply1.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. @thegreenyogi Just that. Safe/secure, and not in fear for my life or being attacked.
I live in a secure community, and a safe city. I protect myself as much as possible, with protective devices in my car, including a 50,000-volt electric device, and bear spray.
I don't' carry my firearm for obvious reasons

1 moJust being in a place where people have standards vs where jungle thinking is all they understand. You can tell what kind of place your in because there will be assholes all around. People driving too fast acting rude filth everywhere. Parts of California are like that. Less safe and depressing. People there don't have anything interesting to say they're just into dumb selfish stuff. Not a lot going on in their heads.
10 Reply 10.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I feel safe because I’ve never been robbed at my house. I’ve never been involved with a mad man out in the street trying to harm me with a gun or a knife.
I live in a free country and I’m safe and most of the fall and spring. I’ve left my front door open all night long so I’m pretty safe here10 Reply
1 moThe opposite of being dropped in the hood without a gun, or the opposite of being in an active war zone.
I'm at home, typing this, sipping a beer... and I'm just chill... this is safe for me.
