I guess the main news here is, that - contrary to most former Soviet Bloc states - Russia itself did not use that window of opportunity to turn into a free and democratic nation.
For countries which were exploited by Soviet Union, for sure. For countries which have lived from threat level balancing it wasn't that good.
It is proof socialism does not work. Sadly, it's influence has infected the US long before the USSR collapsed.
Far better, though Marxist ideology already infiltrated many countries
Exactly. The collapse of the Soviet Union was absolutely a good thing. It ended a brutal communist superpower and freed nations from Soviet domination. But Marxist ideology did not die with the USSR. It adapted, spread, and continued influencing politics, academia, activism, and culture. The regime collapsed, but the ideological battle continued and the USA needs to eradicate it quickly
@SolitarySolace Nope, it made worse
Interesting take. In what specific way did the world become worse?
The collapse of the Soviet Union ended one of history’s largest authoritarian communist regimes, freed multiple Eastern European states from Soviet control, and significantly reduced the immediate risk of superpower nuclear confrontation.
I can understand arguing the post-Soviet world created new instability, but I would need a strong case for why that outweighs the fall of the USSR itself.
I feel it's the same honestly
They are still same ole
