The United Kingdom has a unique national anthem. It changes based on whether the monarch is a king or a queen.
During Queen Elizabeth II's 70-year reign, the anthem was "God Save the Queen". For the past few years, with King Charles III on the throne, it's "God Save the King".
During the national anthem before England plays Mexico in Mexico City in this year's World Cup, it looks like some of the English players were singing "God Save the Queen".
Maybe they can be forgiven since that's what they grew up with?
What do you think? Did they really sing the wrong lyrics? And if they did, should they be forgiven?

I am so tired of arrogant, condescending Brits that I don't really GAF!
This was the first year I said the Kings Birthday in referring to the public holiday instead of the Queens birthday. We are close to being down with it but there is still the occasional slip up.
We don't sing God Save the X so we are not at risk of that.
Sure they should be forgiven. I'm 73 and Queen Elizabeth II, monarch of Canada and the rest of the British Commonwealth, ruled from Feb.6,1952,17 months before I was born until her 2024 passing.
I'm surprised they knew the words.
Strictly speaking England doesn't have an official national anthem. They either sign the awful UK anthem "God save the King" or the better one "Jerusalem"
they sang the song. without changing the song they learnt.
Means they think the king is doing a terrible job and would rather have William take over from Daddio, such is the muted form of British protest
Doesn't work, warfare does like the French do
It’s a good game. They are winning right now halftime
They won 3 to 2
Maybe they know something that we do not...
We don't know
Doubt it.
