I'd like to know that myself. Some of the players (Megan Rapinoe, for example) has a history of kneeling during the anthem, which is disrespectful. It's her way of trying to make a political statement. Not singing makes the US look bad to the world. Players who didn't sing should be fined or kept on the bench.

OK, they will claim they have the right to their own opinion, per the 1st Amendment. But they're not in the US, they're in a foreign country (New Zealand) and their US rights don't automatically transfer there.

As a fellow American, I am disappointed that many of the women on the team did not sing, only a few did.

Mandatory or compulsory national pride isn't national pride at all.. the option of NOT standing for the national anthem, or singing it, is just as important for the health and wellbeing of this country as anything, and just as American as apple pie. Traditionally people are NOT singing during the anthem. I'm not defending the soccer team because I think they're entitled, delusional trash, but when you watch the superbowl there isn't a deafening roar of 30k people singing in unison. Tradition is you stand there with your hand over your heart of salute if you're military/vet, and while you can sing along, in any large gathering of people 90% of them are not.

I've got plenty of reasons to hate the women's soccer team. Not singing isn't one of them. That said, they should have followed decorum and put their hands on the hearts. If you hate this country so much make sure you don't take a job where you're wearing her flag.

Well, obviously in the current climate the first thing we need to establish is how many of them are dudes but if I were to hazard a guess I would think it was either a political protest against something that no one cares about for very good reasons or they thought that 90 minutes of them jiggling around on the pitch would be sufficient entertainment without the singing.

I can almost guarantee that you can go through any sporting event in the last 70 years and see that majority if not all the athletes don’t sing the anthem when it’s played. and not all them put their hand over their hearts.

Actually when you go to such events, the PA will only ask that you stand, they rarely ask to remove hats any more. So I don't know why some of you weirdos are so upset by it. Like it’s been pretty common for decades. You can watch medal ceremonies from past olympics and see that the athletes don’t sing it. it’s not a new phenomenon
