For me the answer to this question is yes.
For example I hold the opinion that it is okay to abort _____ babies. If I filled in the blank and said or wrote that opinion either offline or online I believe I would probably attract angry people and I don’t want to deal with angry people so I kind of just keep my mouth shut.
Another example is I don’t want to mention the name of this public figure but I will just say they are disliked by many in the country I live in.
I have both negative and positive opinions about him but I’m kind of scared to say the positive opinions out loud because I’m afraid some people might laugh at me, judge me negatively or be angry at me for thinking positive things about a person who is well disliked.
For the second person they are a well known public figure but also disliked by a lot of people in the country I live in. I have both positive and negative opinions about him but I’m hesitant to say the positive opinions because I’m afraid other people might laugh at me or be angry at me.

It depends on what i think would be won or lost by it.
Like for example i believe homosexuality is quasi form of mental illness brought on by trauma. I know we live in a society that has come to accept this as a normal lifestyle. And i'm not here to hate on gay people or their lifestyle. They're 2 consenting adults i do not care what they do in their bedroom.
The point is, i know gay people, i respect them, they should be afforded the same rights as anybody else. But you're not going to convince me that homosexuality is a normal evolution. I think something, some trauma in their past pushed them down that path. In that sense they're right, "it's not a choice". But holding onto a trauma isn't healthy either.
Either way i'm not going to change the world to this, nor do i have any desire to try. Let them live their lives. i'll live mine. We aren't hurting one another.
So i generally stay silent on this. Because nothing would be gained by me voicing my opinion. And it would just stir up ill feelings.
Not really. I don’t lead with my most controversial opinions, but i don’t hold them back when they’re relevant either.
