Doesn't it depend who is spreading their bad reputation or behavior? I don't believe everything I hear, people talk out of their asses. If it was from a close friend id probably believe them.

I don't belive until I see sth so I would. If limits are crossed game over. But if I know that rumors are true, there's no way. And yes past is important, it's gonna hunt you soon or later.

Something like 'being stupid' or 'being rude' I'd judge on my own.

If they have a reputation for being a deceitful liar or having a secret life as a crackwhore, I'd probably look into that before getting too involved.

no. because those people are either really as people described or have other problems that made people describe them that way. Of course there are always exceptions.
