Well now that you have lied about attending college... Simply say that you are really excited and make sure you know where your college is what the name of that college is and that that college actually offers a degree in Criminal Justice. Choose a college that is far away where you live another state and not a famous one like Stanford or Harvard. More in the lines of Texas A&M or Georgia State University. The location and quality of the college is key so that A. they don't have people who they know attending those colleges and B it protects you from them believing you are full of sh*t.
After that they will be too bored to ask you any more questions. if they see you in town when you are supposed to be in college, tell them that you are taking a year off to decide what you really want to do with your life.
Just say you took a semester off. It isn't that big of a deal and it is better than lying about it.
