Why do other people twist your words?

I was chatting with a coworker that dislikes me. (we"re forced to work together) I was making light conversation and clearly said " If I don't get a new dependable job soon ill do something stupid and reckless by moving to florida" she then said if you hate the south why would you go there? I corrected her quickly saying I meant that I didn't have any savings, car and I've never been out of chicago . I haven't even lived on my own yet. She twist everything I say, I called a girl a work a fun party girl and she says I called her ghetto... (in her mind party girl and ghetto are the same things)

She only misinterpret me. One of the guys she friends with said something offensive to me. I bent over to pick up something he drop, I told him id take it from him. He then said " I bet you'd take it real good." I didn't even know that guy very well but when I said something about him she told me he didn't mean it that way. Hell the man talks about cheating on his wife with different women and how women are hoes but she OK with it.

My question is why do people twist other peoples words?

First of all, everybody isn't logical to some extent. I'm sure everybody twists words to some extent. There are always people that may twist words less than you or I, and would those people wonder why we twist our words?

Words have relative meanings. You might say "party girl", and in your mind, that is okay to say. But to her, that phrase might be associated with something else. It isn't that anyone is twisting your words. It is just that each person is different, and each person associates different words together. Where I come from, a woman would not want to be called a party girl.

As for that guy, some people are like that. Some people joke about everything and then when you confront them about it, say "I was just joking. Can't you take a joke?" These people make jokes, and then, whenever anyone finds something wrong with them, puts the blame on to the other person(s). It would be wrong if nobody could ever take anyone seriously.

First girl is Jealous of you and second one was a perverted loser...

Get rid of them both if possible and for the first one ,tell her straight on her face that ,you don't like what she's doing and If she has a problem with you she should tell you on your face otherwise you'll have to take steps...

Learn to stand up for yourself and don't take SHIT from anybody...

They are just miserabe people who hate their sh*tty jobs and boring lifes, just try to avoid talking with them, only when you have to andkeep it about work/no personal stuff, ignore the sexual comments, if he is out of control then tell the boss. Seems like I always get stuck working with people like this, I try to just keep happy and laugh at their annoying behaviors.

People often make conclusions and THEN start looking for a way to justify them. Anything that seems like a justification will do until they find a better one. So something that might vaguely support their conclusion will be twisted to seem like it does.

Don't tell to people who aren't your friends something that they can twist. People are stupid and bored in their life so they like to make someone feeling bad for something they said with a different meaning. They like to feel power.

they only do it because they don't want to be wrong. I mean people hate to admit that they are wrong or think in a different way from what is actually there. I don't know why people have such a hard time especially if its someone they hate. If we could all just be understanding and forgiving the world will be a much happier place.

You shouldn't care what people think or say, they're obviously jealous just don't let them get to you.

I often easily get misunderstood, so I keep work simple as work to them an nothing more.
