In all honesty?
I don't feel any sympathy or bad for her at all. Natural selection is doing it's job. I'll say this ironically but problems, that fix themselves are often the best problems to have. Sure, she desperately NEEDED help (not the likes) but when it comes to committing suicide over not having enough likes, that's where I draw the threshold of being beyond able to be saved.
On another note, what are the politicians going to do after this? Are they going to ban social media and ruin businesses, that are relying their revenues on exploiting the people's private personal data? This is gonna be the next biggest show after blaming video games for amok runs (school shootings) like they did in the German media.
People discovered fire. Some people got burned alive by fires.
People invented the pool or swimming techniques. Some people drowned.
People invented the automobile. Some people rammed their automobiles and killed themselves (and the victims sometimes too).
People discovered medicine and produced meds. Some people overdosed on them and died.
The exact same pattern repeats now with social media. People built social media for various reasons. Some kill themselves over not getting enough likes.
Where are their survival instincts? Let us see...

She was mentally ill and needed help. It happens every day, just not necessarily connected to Instagram. It's sad as fuck, but it's not the fault of social media. There's another woman I know on here who is quite attractive, but is totally down on herself because it's not enough that 20 people say she's pretty or sexy, if ONE guy says she's not. She just hangs on to that and says "see, it's the truth". She needs counseling, and so does anyone who thinks that way. It's a really sad trend. There was a cool "Black Mirror" episode about that.

Unfortunately, cases like that are just the tip of the tip of the tip of the iceberg.
So many youth are totally screwed up by social media and rely on likes and opinions to tailor their lives around this.
Our ancestors had the black plague that decimated them, our modern society has Instagram, Twitter and a number of other social media that excel at achieving the same result.
As long as our society accepts that those media invade our privacy and torment the youth to such an extend that they need to commit suicide to find an escape, then there is no remedy to avoid that type of brain washing.
This is a sad time we live in where everybody has the need to be ever present on social media.
This is just the surface of the problem I think, there is obviously something deeper to this that we are just not aware of. She clearly had problems and didn't know how to get help
she killed herself because she had a mental illness. Depression. not caused by instagram, as she used it as a coping mechanism and ill correctly measured her worth to likes.
it no different when somebody offs themselves when the break up with a lover. it’s not the lovers fault, it was a mental illness called depression. he or she falsely Perceived value they got from their lover.
Depression is serious and can be dangerous if not treated, with severe depression.
so no she did not kill herself because of IG. she committed suicide do to depression. a mental illness that is very common.
The likes weren't what caused her to kill herself, or stay alive. It's something she would have done or not done for any other number of reasons anyway. I've known a lot of people who ended themselves, when that thought takes root, nothing stops them, and you can only temporarily hold them back from it.

thats sad as hell but what is more alarming is that it isn't a shock in todays fucked up world where an online persona is more important than a real person. in cidentally one of the developers of the like function at farcebook also became victim and developed mental healthissues to the point she could no longer go to work because it meant she had to see the farcebool thumbsup sign everytime she went to the office

i think people are too quick to blame such things on the platform or some "toxic" society when really i think those issues are issues of the individual. not being able to cope with the world and not having the appropriate "tools" to make good decisions and interpret reality in a way that's conductive to their live.
She needed a better support system then something as unreliable as instagram likes. Ideally she should of been seeing a therapist and being monitored by close family at all times or be entered into a mental health centre to work on her condition in a more constructive way. This looks like an accident that was just waiting to happen.

Very sad... She shouldn’t have been on social media; she should have been in a therapist’s office getting the help she needed. I often see people using social media as a crutch to help them with conditions that really need professional help. The problem is that with all the trolls and flame wars on the internet, social media requires a fairly thick skin.
I once said that if you take down instagram and tinder for just one week female suicide will sky-rocket. I got plenty of pink down-votes and replies calling me the usual names. Now we have this.
