With tech now.. you can do everything without thinking. I use my Apple Watch to track my calories and workouts. I have the app that I import my numbers too. However they have scales that have apps that automatically update everything in your health apps and such. The only really work is food journaling and meal prep.

Yes use fitness pal. That would be better to track calories. Buy go for a whole diet. Tracking calories might be inaccurate sometimes.
I’ve got a couple friends who really seem to like whatever watch and apps that they loaded onto the watch. I have an Apple Watch, but I don’t have anything very sophisticated loaded onto it so I can’t give good input regarding that part of the technology.

In my opinion, don't buy anything, first start to reduce and then maintain with the help of gadgets or something.
Most of the time what happens is people buy stuff and then they never use it.a scale... you don't need a stupid electric device that beeps at you for every calorie you burn. step on the scale every other week and you'll see.
Probably a smart phone. Not as clunky as a tablet and better readability than a smart watch.
