Why is it hard to make friends on discord?

I joined this discord server for fans for this game we all like a lot. I just joined a few days ago and everyone seems close knit with each other.

I feel like this stranger that's barging into their warm safe space. They don't try to talk to me so I end up asking them random questions just so I can talk to them and get more familiar.

Like I was asking them if they believe in aliens and ghosts and interesting stuff like that. At one point we were talking about VCRs and remembering VHS tapes lol.

Everything seemed cool but I notice they don't even care if I stay or go. They don't look for me like how they look for other people.

I've said things where people just straight up ignore me and just keeping talking about whatever they want to talk about. I even share a funny meme and they just ignore it.

I was thinking like wtf? Why? Makes me wonder why I'm putting myself through this, I just wanted to make friends with them.
