Will Instagram still be a mainstream platform by 2030 or 2040?

It continues to blow my mind how a platform that has existed since 2010 has continued to see "explosive growth" and no signs of slowing down, even though its model clearly has become flawed for its users ever since Facebook bought in 2012. The new shopping button on the app was the "final nail in the coffin" for many people, but it still wasn't enough to get a considerable amount of people to abandon the platform.

What will it take for the next social media platform to take over Instagram's and even TikTok's market share? I'm worried that Instagram is going to continue being the go-to platform even in 2030, but then again a lot can change in 9-10 years.

Nope. I truly believe Facebook and instagram will eventually disappear like MySpace did. I also believe YouTube will one day disappear as well because many YouTuber creators are no longer using the platform and a lot of people are also no longer watching videos on there. The ads alone are more annoying than the ads on tv.

I mean I watch YouTube videos everyday so for other people they’re might not but YouTube existed longer before insta or Facebook were made too.

The reason why TV is dying is because of ads, Youtube does not have this problem. You said the ads are annoying yet it's super simple to get rid of them.

1st ad blockers there is many that are free while also many that are paid for that work, my web browser has a perfect working for free one.

2nd Speed up Extension which is actually better overall the ads still run but will just skip to the end of the ad acting as if you watched it. Why it's better is because unlike ad blocker it counts you watched it therefore youtube and creators keep the funding.

The only way Yotube dies if it tries to prevent either of these, though it could prevent ad blocker longs if that speed up is allowed.
We've seen them go hard on Ad blocker before which resulted in within mere moments severe backlash and they went oops nvm to that idea.

So I think Youtube is very much aware these things have to exist and will easily survive unlike TV, Youtube especially for us Gen Z is where we actively consume videos as if it was TV and this point we are hardset in that routine. It's hard to imagine a world with a better service than youtube that still manages to make money.

And I don't know where you got this idea people are no longer watching videos on youtube or creators are no longer using the platform since by all factors youtube is still growing. Most youtubers I know that "retire" still make content, and there is always new ones in their place.

Youtube is also the only site to reach that 100whatever billions it is like google. Facebook and etc aren't even close. So in reality it's like aspect google to die, which I think is impossible tbh. But only time will tell.

I doubt it. I think some other new app will become the new popular social media. It's been like that. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, tik tok...

The only one that will survive til 2040 is youtube.

Honestly don’t really know what will or won’t be when 2030 or 2040s get here. Instagram seem like the big heavyweight among them all that’s going strong for now but the next 20-30 years we won’t know what’s gon happen
