In Beijing China, a half-marathon race included both humans and humanoid robots.

The Winner was a bipedal robot named Lightning that completed the half-marathon race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, shattering the human record of 57 minutes and 20 seconds set by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo. Many of the participating robots were controlled remotely, but the winning Lightning robot, made by Chinese smartphone-maker Honor, navigated autonomously.

Is it important that robots can now run faster than humans?

So people are driving robots made out of metal and plastic that are controlled by computers at roughly 13 mph and think they’ve accomplished something special while average ordinary humans are driving metal and plastic cars controlled by computers at roughly 80 mph on an average daily commute to and from work while drinking their coffee on an interstate highway, and other humans have pushed the land speed record to 304.77 mph. I remember driving RC cars faster than that robot as a kid. Weird… If this trend continues, next year the Chinese will boast about a robot traveling at 3 miles per hour. They might need a new buzz word aside from "robot" if they want to fool people into patting them on the back.

it's really of no special consequence. Humans have limitations, a very few excellant atheletes have pushed the human limit to the max. a robots limitations are dictated by the minds and knowledge of it's creators. To come up with a robot that can physically out perform a human is no big deal in fact it's expected. it's the robots intellligence that they will struggle with as they're intelligence is limited by the input which is derived from human intelligence. But qne human can and may out perform another human's intelligence and thus can do the same vs. a robot.

It's only important if you need someone or something to run somewhere faster than a person. I think it does show how far robot development has come and is amazing. But we're NOT machines, and there will always be a machine that can do more physically or mentally faster than a human. Point is we've developed them.

that's usually people working in tech and robotics, stuff like that...

personally, I would not mind it for my personal robot to take its sweet time to take out of the trash, no need to rush... definitely no need to run for it, lol

however... if it started to rain, then yeah... would probably be better if they rush back as fast as efficiently possible, lmao

Yes it does. In the past we've lost lots of manual jobs to automaton. Today we're losing lots of jobs to AI. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the next step is to combine the two. Would it really be that hard to train a robot to work in a warehouse or in a kitchen?
